Cub 169

I bought this 169 today from the original owner. It came with the hydraulic lift from the dealer and was only used to cut grass. I think the deck is 50". The back rims are shot because the fluid leaked out of the tires. It has not been ran is several years but appears to be in good shape. The only change was the muffler. Hopefully that will be an easy fix. I am hoping to clean the carb, put a kit in it, and start it up. The PO changed the hydro fluid about 5 years ago and even used hytran and a cub cadet filter.

I think the 169 may be my number one favorite Cub Cadet. I love both of mine, but the 169 is a rare commodity since they only made just over 4,000 of them. Yours looks like a great project Cub! And...you got it from the original owner, too! Even better! Congratulations on your find!

You have a nice project there. I would love to have a 169.

Nice find Masmith
I love mine. Keep us posted on your progress:beerchug:

Congrads on the 169!

WOW what a great purchase you made. I am hoping to have my 169 home by mid January. Keep us up to date with pics. :)

Mooner 12-15-2010 09:14 PM

DX3, tell me the story about the 169 that you're getting. I bet you can't wait to get it. :)
Any photos to share?

ACecil 12-15-2010 10:28 PM

Congrats on your 169!

very nice. i love my 169 and would like to get another. as far as the muffler its going to be a challenge to find the correct one. there was a guy at plow day with a 16 horse in a original with a stack on it. thats what i plan on doing to my 169. sounded sweet haha

Here is the story from another post I made here.. I still don't have pics yet. Won't have till I get it home :)..

Went to the local Cub store this morning to pic up my gaskets for the 128 shifter plate and rear end cover. I got to talking with Mr. Bishop the owner and we got back onto the topic of his 169. I kind of hinted around a bit that I was still interested in it from when I had looked at it a few years ago. He kind of grinned a bit and told me he would probably sell it, due to the fact his health is slowly failing and he knew he would never get around to fixing it back up. He openly told me the Governor in the engine would probably need replacing but that the motor had not over revved. Other than that it was in great shape, but hadn't been moved for a long time. Other than being dusty when I saw it a few years ago, it looked good. He told me he knew he could make a lot more money just by parting it out, but that he just couldn't stand to do that and would rather see someone fix it up and get it going. After asking him how much he wanted for it and holding my breath till I thought I was going to turn blue, he looked around, leaned in and said I'll take $300 for it. I asked if I could put down $100 and finish paying next month would be ok, and he said take all the time you need. So I put down the money and the 169 I have been wanting for years will soon be in my shop. To say I am excited is a little understated LOL. He also told me he may go ahead and make a deal on the 129 sitting right beside it. And he has a very very nice 100 in his old store on the show room floor still sitting where it was for the past few years. It is painted the wrong color, yellow, but short of that, it looks runs and drives just like a new one. I am hoping I can pick that one up around March. Hmmmmm.... I am not going to have enough room in my shop to work.... Is nice to have problems like that .... I'll post pictures once I have it in my possesion. He said to let him know when I was ready for it and he would bring it in to the store and have the guys clean it up and be ready for transport. A great early christmas present to myself

169

Congradulations on the 169, I have had one for about 5 years, great machine, I just bought a 1811 that I am restoring, I have a copy of the 169 manual it may help, I would need your E mail, it is a PDF file, and I can forward it to you.
As for the muffler watch E bay, there was some that would be a close match (after market)
Jim

DX3...great story! I believe that things happen for a reason. You were in the right place at the right time. Same thing happened to me with my 149, as you know. I love that thing! I could see myself getting (hopefully) a 169 someday as a project tractor. Can't wait until warmer weather so I can begin sprucing up my 149, though it won't need much at all. $300 is a great price for your new baby. Hope to see some photos of it real soon.
Merry Christmas!! :beerchug:

I took the carb off the 169, soaked it and put in a new kit. Also cleaned the spark plug and gas tank. It fired up and sounds great. The hydro lift works, along with the hour meter. Can't get the lights to work yet. Put a snow blade on and waiting to use it.

I really regret selling my 169..was laid off of work and I thought that the cash would help...it really didn't. wheel weights, 3 point... I kick myself in the DUPA whenever I remember!:bash2::bash2::Boohoo::censored:

I plan to go tomorrow and finish paying for it, so hopefully sometime this week I will have it in the shop. Will post pictures soon as I can.

DX3,congratulations on your 169 tractor and nice to hear your going to fix it up and get good use out of it.She's a gem.

_DX3_ 12-27-2010 05:21 PM

I got the 169 all paid for today. Mr. Bishop said he would have to move some things around to get it out, I know he has had a hard time in last few weeks with his surgery, so told him to take his time and wait for a good couple of days and weather and if he needed help to call me. So with fingers crossed I hope to have it home in a couple of weeks. I have waited this long, a little more time won't kill me. :biggrin2.gif:

Mooner 12-27-2010 08:42 PM

DX3...awesome! Just a belated Christmas present for you. :)
Mr. Bishop sounds like the sort of guy I bought my 149 from. Kinda like we're carrying the Cub torch. :beerchug:

169

I saw a 169 today at a shop, it didn't have the mowing deck. It had some sort of home made attachment on the bottom of it, no seat but other wise all there. What would you offer on such a beast. I am pretty sure it is not in running condition.

_DX3_ 12-30-2010 09:26 PM

What one is worth is kind of dependant upon how much your willing to spend. Considering they are rare, even not running, I could see paying @ 300. Now that would also depend on whether or not the motor was good and not busted. I would find out how much they want and maybe get a couple of pictures of it for us and lets take a look at it. It's hard to put a price on something you can't see. :).
