Paint Suppliers

Hi All...

Everybody knows that you can get paint from Cub Cadet dealers.

Most folks also know that correct paint is available through Case/IH dealers.

What almost no one remembers is that there is a former division of IH, very much still alive, and also has the correct paints. They even use the IH paint codes with a 0 in front of the as in 0901 for the Original white or 0483 for Federal Yellow!!

It's called the International Truck & Engine Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Navistar Holdings.

Just FYI

Does anyone know of a supplier that sells the correct color for powder coating the cub cadet 1650. Thank you

FYI that's a completely different shade of yellow than what's on our IH CCs...that paint matches the orangish-yellow on the cyclops and 2000 series tractors.

Matt which yellow are you talking about for us newbs to Cubs?

Matt G. 02-27-2010 06:01 PM

I'm referring to the Valspar and TSC (probably the same thing) "Cub Cadet Yellow". It matches the orangish-yellow found on 2000 series and the "cyclops" models, and probably everything built since then, too.

There may have been an 3rd intermediate shade of yellow between the IH Cub Cadets and the orange crap I mentioned above, as several of my yellow CCC built 82 series tractors have what appears to be a bit different shade of yellow than my IH tractors, but it's hard to say.

well everyone has opinions...boy do they.....and the TSC Valspar paint is good paint for any resto and has an awesome shine!!!!

Matt G. 02-27-2010 07:03 PM

In case you may be referring to my "orange crap" comment, I was referring to the shade of paint itself and not the brand of paint. However, rattle can paint is no match for paint with hardener applied with a gun in terms of shine and fade/wear resistance.

its a garden tractor not the space shuttle....it is used to mow and plow with....if i was going to park it in my living room and look at it then i would spend all the extra money and spray it with a gun.

My Cubs aren't trailer queens...they are workers.

I have one Cub painted with the TSC Valspar paint in 2005. I'm not impress how the finish looks today. The yellow has no shine left in it and the white never look right to me (wrong shade). Myself I will spend the extra money and use a spray gun.

One thing we ALL have to remember the following: this is your Cub...paint it anyway you like.

FWIW,
Some years back, well maybe more than I want to admit, I painted a manure spreader with red paint that I purchased @ tractor supply. It is now faded pink.
Also I purchased some JD green for an old field sprayer,
it is now faded a flat green/grey.
Darn, I says to myself, no more cheap paint!!
So I go to IH and buy genuine iron guard IH paint to put on my IH 400 Loader tractor.
Nope, not much better, it is faded flat red also, although it isn't faded pink, but it's only been 6 years or so.
So my take is, if it sits out like most farm machinery, and not housed it is going to dull/fade

Matt G. 03-15-2010 11:01 PM

You've also gotta use hardener, too...it doesn't matter what kind of paint you use, if it doesn't have hardener, it's going to fade.

Bright red fades bad enough as it is...
