Brought The New Addition Home

Well I finally brought the 1650 home since it was running when parked 2 years ago I'm giving it my usual treatment of removing the carburetor, dissasembling and soaking in chem dip for a day or 2 poured Marvel Mystery Oil in the piston chamber let stay for a day then I'll remove the head decarbonize it and the valves , put a new head gasket along with new grade 9 head bolts from Fastenal, new plug and a new procedure, cleaning all the grounds and replacing any old ground wires that look worn. Then I'll spray Lawn Mower Tune Up by PB Blaster in cylinder and carburetor and take that baby for a spin. I really excited the carburetor is like new condition just normal gel type crud and the spark plug was very clean. It will definately need some cosmetic work but but miles ahead of what the 1450 was.

How about a stationary shot of the clean carburetor?

jcrews,

Well it's nice to see those new screws it the choke plate. Did ya do a throttle shaft repair on it? We really wanta see the tractor. I can't do action shots untill my dog learns how to hold the camera steady... and grows thumbs.

Now you're teasing, those are the screws tha were in it when I got it. I didn't know I could get those screws in a rebuild set.
Those little brass screws are a real pain to reinstall I had to clean the screw hole out before I could get them back in.

OK OK
It's nice to see a nearly pristine mower knowing you're the 1st to violate it!

jcrews,

You are right you don't get new screws in a rebuild kit. When I assembled my carbs I did it sitting at my couch on the coffee table. I spent about an hour total time looking for dropped choke and throttle plate screws. Then my choke shaft ball took a hop onto the carpet.:bash2:
It took about half an hour to find that with a strong magnet.

I would like to add for others that you can remove and reuse those brass screws if you use a screw driver that exactly fits the screw head; you turn the screw until it feels tight and then back off and do it again, and again and again.... They are brass and you are pulling them through steel. It takes some time but it is definitely doable.

Finally, Nice tractor! I don't know what you are pointing at though. ?????

Time to get out the QL wiring harness I never used.

RPalmer 05-21-2009 06:34 PM

jcrews,

Ahhh a tag now I see it. Well you know nobody has been in there. That's a plus. Beautiful job on decarbonizing. What did you do to get those valves clean enough to eat off of? Really I got to know. Wow that wiring is something of a nightmare. I see bare splices and bare wire sticking out of the tops of terminal connectors. Not to mention the gauge of wire that was used. Good thing you got another harness on stand by.

All in all it looks like you have everything covered. That's got to feel good. I hope you keep on sharing your works. Extra pie for you.

Well actually I hear a crunching sound on the back side of the motor when I rotate it by hand. Could be something in the flywheel I hope so I'm pulling on the motor and lo & behold the motor is not attached to the suspension frame so it will be real easy to remove.
The valve picture, that was showing when I had only cleaned the in take valve(right) and the was I got the valves clean was to take each valve and put each one in the end of my 18 volt Dewalt and polished them with 0000 steel wool and metal polish after removing the heavy carbon with razor blades and lightly applied cup brush (wire) works great.
