Well it's only been 3 months since I finished my hood. I've finally found a little time to get around to getting the body sanded, primed and painted. Here's a sampling to date...

Awesome work Gary!

thanks for the compliments guys. I had actually started on it a long time ago and got frustrated during the paint stripping process and then just didn't have time. I used aircraft stripper, smeared it all on real good and took the pressure washer to it. Well the yellow came off, then the brownish primer showed up. No big deal. Well under that was another coat of yellow... By now, sheesh... All in all There were 4 shades of CC yellow on it and primer too. An angle grinder with a wire cup brush ended up being my best friend.
I've got some of the bigger bolts painted (lug nuts), but I still need to find a way to somewhat quickly get the rest of them painted. I'd hate to spend all this time and have a bunch of rusty nuts and bolts showing. What I did on the lugs was take a piece of cardboard and punched holes in it and threaded them through to paint them. Any better ideas out there? I was thinking about dipping them, but that's not a very thought out approach as to what to do once dipped.... |

Here's the latest so far...

Looks awesome, Gary! Thanks for the progress pics!

I'm afraid I'm going to need a few up close pics of an engine... I've got a couple brackets (small) that I don't have a clue as to where they went and how the choke cable routes/fastens. My memory is too old to have this stuff apart for 3 months and then remember how it goes back. :)

Gary, SUPER JOB!!! That tractor is looking great! :beerchug:
I am so glad that you got it because that is the stuff that needed to be done to it but I was too squeamish to attempt it:NailBite: |

Here's a few more.... :)
I've still got to get the decals (127) on the dash and get the seat fixed up, along with the fender reflectors. My next step is to get it running!!!:biggrin2.gif: I swapped out to a new wiring harness and I've got something reversed somewhere. Oh well, at least it looks good. :) And you can see in my last picture who all the work was for. Wyatt (Hambone) turned 1 the end of Sept, but this will be his one day!!! |
Nice
Gary, when can I ship mine to you so you can redo it for me? HA HA, looks great !!!
|
Your 127 looks awesome, Gary! :beerchug:
|
Great work, hope mine looks that good when i'm done.
|
That is looking awesome. Did you say you have to put the dacal on the dash yet? The dash looks pretty good already.
|
The side decals that say '127'. The dash decal itself has been replaced. I wish I could have kept the original tin, but it was just too beat up. That would have been really cool.
I will definitely say, this is something that can become addictive. I'll be the first to admit this wasn't a 100% restore, but I do know with how it was to begin with and what stuff I've done to it, the tractor should be a solid running machine for a long time down the road. I'll give the paint a B+. I wanted to take a little more time as far as getting the "small" stuff painted up, but like I've said to some... I want this to be a daily used machine, not a trailer queen. |
Gary that looks great!

Good to see the kid involved
Great pictures of nice work. I always like it when the young ones are exposed to the Cub Cadet bug early. Looks like you'll have some fun with this 127. I like the attention to detail. I'm planning on finishing 2 "O"s up this weekend. It takes time to do it right but the end results are well worth it (as seen with yours).:GoodLuck:
|
So if the dash tin was trash, what did you put the decal on? I'm trying to figure out what to do on my 1650.
|
Gary, that tractor looks awesome!! You did a great job.:beerchug:

Here's a few more you can compare... That one tin I have can probably be worked with if I had the skills, but I don't. :)

Those vinyl stickers would stick to grease! I don't see it coming off anytime soon. I did put mine directly on the plastic/fiberglass, whatever it is. I did not put it overtop of the metal tin as you can see in those other pictures. I thought about it, but I just didn't know how and if it would work. Also, I didn't paint the area of the cowl where the decal would be applied, but I did sand it smooth. |
I followed your lead and applied mine to the plastic. My tin was good, just awfully faded and textured so I didn't think it would look good.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...b/DSCF8772.jpg I also spent $.20 on felt at Walmart to protect my gas tank: http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...b/DSCF8769.jpg http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...b/DSCF8770.jpg :biggrin2.gif: |
Looks good!! I like the felt. On the cowl before I re-did it, there was a piece of what looked like weatherstripping. I didn't know if that was factory or not. That is something I definitely want to do before opening/shutting the hood too much.
