Starting on the 1610

Thought some maybe interested, I'm starting on project #2 seeing the 1110 is finished (I'll get pictures up soon) This is a 1610 hydro with 16 horse briggs. The tractor seemed to run pretty good dispite alot of oil leaks. The hydro was strong from what I could tell the little I drove it around before I started to tear it apart.
This may not sit well with some, but I've always wanted an International lawn tractor around, seeing every tractor on the farm except for the compact is IH. So I'm going to build one using the 1610. :drool2:
My plan is to paint everything yellow IH red, and go through it front to back, and top to bottom. It's going to take me some time, but what else is there to do at night, and weekends?:biggrin2.gif:
I've got almost everything stripped off, so I can begin sandblasting, but I've got two more of those :Swear: rear rusted wheels again, so back to the penatrating oil and puller. Tryed the puller and they won't budge, so we'll have to let the oil do it's thing first.
So there it is, my next project is under way:buttrock:

Got some more done today. Finally got the rear tires off (thanks tinkerman) got the dash out of the way and the hydro is gone for now. Getting ready for sandblasting maybe on the weekend. But hunting looks to be higher on the list right now.
We'll see.

Nice progress! Thanks for the update.

If it comes out as nice as your 1110 project, it will be awesome.

I think this is the first time I've seen the bare frame of one of these lawn tractors - it looks beefy enough.

Looking good so far! Your very welcome. I just tore some new tires and rims off of a stupid toro wanna be wheel horse. LOL. No bolts, the ole cotter pin. No holes in the rim for a puller. Took me three hours and a can of PB and half a can of propane for heat and my huge mall(heavier then the usual and a broken handle makes it a gigantic hammer wich I call the persuader) to get one rim off. I guess my persuader is not as much of a persuader this time as I had hoped! Killed my back for the day! Trying to save the rims for a friend to put some older tread on for him while I throw the new rubber on my rims and take the chains off for my rims as well. What a PINR!! I got that toro to steel the 16 HP briggs out of for my tractor. Runs like a champ and when I used it for mowing, there was no such thing as slowing down or bogging in deep grass or on the hill! Seen a great 70's GT yesterday. Sure wish I knew how much and wish even more I could afford it! Until then, Ill tinker on these LTs! I am sure this one will look great too!

BTW, wy cub red instead of the YNW? Just wondering?

zippy1 10-14-2010 09:51 AM

Just wanted something (odd) we have IH on the farm and the color was always my favorite. We had a farmal super c, w-9, farmal m and super m and still have the IH 856 and 1086 so I guess to answer your question, just seems like the thing to do!
And I always wanted an IH red lawn tractor, I know it's not the same as a (real) one, but it will be fine for me. And it's not like it's a big collector tractor or anything, so why not?:bigthink:

tinkerman73 10-14-2010 10:51 AM

LOL. Cool! I hope as I have to time to get to the 805 and rebuild it and paint it(with a different chassis with only one pedal and locking brake) that I can paint it in a bright and vibrant yellow and white, not neccesarily cub colors. Alo hope to add flames to it and a side pipe! Either that or a zoomie style. LOL. Because we live in a neighborhood though, it will have to have a muffler on it even if its one of those crap can styles!

Zippy, You say you have a 1086

I've been thinking finding a cub, and making it look like a 1086. I've got one also, and Love it.

I think if I get to it, I'm going to redo the whole thing, So it looks just like the 1086, But with turf tires, and smaller, I defenetly want the do the cab though,

Are you on my tractor fourm. If so, Do you have a thread of your 1086... I love meeting people who have them. I just love mine.

Thanks
Cody

Don't mean to sound real stupid, but what's a thread? You asked if I had a thread of the 1086, don't know what it is.

_DX3_ 10-14-2010 09:20 PM

This discussion is a thread...

See that's what I get for assuming.

On another fourm, Which is what Only Cub Cadets is, They had boards, Which is Cub Cadets, Then they had Sub-Boards, which is like the Cub Cadet Lawn Tractor (LT). Then we had threads, which is Starting on the 1610. and Then Posts, which is a reply...

Well, On here it seems to be the same, except instead of Thread, We're calling it a topic, So, I'm sorry for the confusion. and it's not stupid, There are probably 2 other people, who read that, and thought the same thing, but didn't have the courage to ask....

Plus, if you hit the reply button, you'll see at the top, it says "Reply to Thread" :D

So, I was wondering if you've got a topic about your 1086, on any Forum. I'd love to see some pics.

Thanks
Cody

zippy1 10-15-2010 08:51 AM

No I don't have any pictures of it anywhere. What about the Off Topic part of the web site?

Elephants1772 10-15-2010 02:36 PM

Yea, I'd say, that's a good place. And I'm sure if it's not, We'll get told, I just love a 1086... Sorry to disrupt this thread/topic, But I just had to know...

When you do make that thread, I'm going to ask you some questions, or maybe PM you about them...

Thanks
Cody

Hey Zippy1! I'am sure its gonna look good when you get done. Yea, I'd go hunting too per season. That looks like a stout lt for sure. Wonder if ever need be, you could make fit a gt hydro. trans.axel up in that frame?

tinkerman73 10-18-2010 06:10 AM

I had been wondering that myself!

Considering they're twice the size and a completely different configuration, no. If you want a real GT, buy one.

T-Mo 10-18-2010 08:19 AM

I think Matt is right - personally I think, even if it would fit, it would require a lot of modifying to a point that it would be cheaper to just buy a garden tractor.

zippy1 10-18-2010 02:30 PM

I really have no desire to change anything in the drive train on the lawn tractor, it works fine for the light duty it will be called opon to do.
And now after finding my latest barn finds, I think if I would need something for heavier work, either one would work fine. Check them out garden tractor section.
