My new 169

I bought an old model 169 last week while looking for a lawn mower. I didn't know a lot about it but I thought it seemed like a good buy for 350. I have gave it a tune up...new spark plug, battery, points, air filter and oil. It seems to be running much better. Now I want to start finding some implements. I don't really know what I need or where to find it. Do I need a cat O or sleeve hitch? I really don't mean to sound dumb, but I don't know the difference. The tractor has a hydraulic lift in the rear but it only moves about an inch or so. Is this normal? Any help would be appreciated.

Wow a 169 for 350,Id imagine thats quite a good deal for one of the rarest cubs!!!
I Upload all my pictures to photobucket then paste the link when I post here.when the pisc are uploaded you can put your cursor on the picture and a drop down menu will come up with 4 options,I left click on the very bottom one, that highlights it in blue, then right click and "copy",then im able to paste here!!
You do have to have a photobucket account that is free, although they take donations.
Now there are other ways, incase yo dont want a photobucket account, but i dont use them and am not farmiliar how to,sooo ill let others explain thoes ways!!!

By the way welcome

Jason

under edit, the very bottom option is the IMG code,On photobucket!!

Great looking tractor. I spend way too much time online looking at tractors for sale and where they are. NC doesn't have a lot for sale but the ones I've seen I've wanted. You can't beat the price you paid either. There are good people here who will be a big help you you. Congratulations.

I don't think anyone answered your hitch question. You need a sleeve hitch adapter for the tractor's 3-point if you don't already have one, and you'll use sleeve hitch implements. Here's a Cat 0 plow and a sleeve hitch plow so you can see the differences:

What a deal, a 169 in good shape with the hydro lift already installed! You stole that Cub!

169Cub 05-12-2009 11:42 AM

Thanks Matt, you answered my question. One more thing, how much travel should the hydraulic lift in the rear have? Mine seems to move only an inch or so.

klejeune 05-12-2009 11:55 AM

Do you have a top link pin in or just the cast piece? If it's just the cast piece it looks like it's not moving much, but if you put a top link pin in the end of the pin will move about 5" or more. Kind of like a tractor chubby... I know, sophmoric humor. I have to grow up, but I don't have to mature mentally ;)

169Cub 05-12-2009 12:52 PM

It does have a metal pin of some sort in it. It sticks out maybe 3 inches from the cast piece with a hole through it. Would having the deck under the tractor have anything to do with it? The deck also doesn't seem to raise very much, maybe an inch to an inch and a half. Is this normal or do I have a problem with the hydraulic's?

klejeune 05-12-2009 01:04 PM

How far off the ground is the bottom lip of the deck? There is a depth stop adjustment knob on the right side by your foot. Remove that and the cam completely and see how far of movement you have.
