Peco leaf vacs
11 Attachment(s)
I just bought these 3 Peco leaf vacs at a barn sale over the weekend Supposedly they last ran about 35 years ago, and were used on a 149. The green one is probably in the best shape, so I’m going to try getting that one going first. That has a Tecumseh H35 on it. It has a tag with a model number, 015112, on the tray. The second one has a 3 hp B&S on it. I can’t find a model number on it, but it looks very similar to the other one. That one has a broken impeller, and the aluminum blower housing is broken. Someone wrapped a tire tube around it to hold it together. The 3rd one is belt driven, but I think it is missing some parts, and something’s locked up. That has an ID number 1690402 1057. The impeller and housing are in good shape, so I’m probably going to use it for parts to fix the one with the Briggs. I think I can make 2 good ones out of the 3.
I have been looking, and can’t find much info about these. Does anyone have a manual, or know where I can find one? Also, does anyone have a picture of one mounted on a Cub Cadet? I’m thinking I’m missing a few parts to mount them. It looks like those two brackets that stick out would fit over the rear axle tubes, but there must be more than that. |

Most likely the mounting brackets are still on the 149, I believe these are the mounting brackets but not 100% sure. The one is from a Simplicity. 1690402

You can call Peco vac at the number on the tag, and ask to see if they have a manual. The area code is different on their website.

I'll try to get a picture tomorrow, as the Peco is upstairs on the 2nd level, which is a little disorganized as I am having an addition added to the main floor of the barn. |

I got the one with the Tecumseh running, although not running great yet. It just needed the carb cleaned, and the points sanded, and I changed the oil. I ordered a Chinese carb for it, since I got that and an air cleaner for about the same as just a carb kit would have cost. I figured I would just use the parts form that to rebuild the original carb. I tried putting that new one on first, but I can’t get it to run right. I’ve never had much luck with the cheap carbs on anything, so I wasn’t really expecting much. I have the original carb cleaned, I just have to swap the parts over and put it back on.
I did get it on my 149. As I said earlier, I didn’t get the mounting brackets with them. The bagger frame slides over the rear axle tubes, and I just cut a piece of angle iron to bolt between the tractor hitch and the frame of the bagger. It seems to be holding it solid enough. The PO of this tractor welded an extra bracket onto the hitch, which is actually helping as well. The bagger frame slides right under it. I would still like to find a correct set of mounts, but I think this will work fine for now. Even though it wasn’t running great, I had to try it out. It seems to work alright, but I only ran it long enough to fill the bag once. I’ll get the original carb back on, and hopefully I can use it more this weekend. My only complaint so far is that it’s loud! I can’t even hear the tractor engine over it. I can’t say yet if it’s much better than my 1440 with a non powered bagger. That works ok too, but it does block up easy if the leaves are wet, or if I go to fast. |
Great find on your Pecos! The one with the square "pointy" pan is older than the one with the square round pan, which should be somewhere about '75-'78. I have each one of those, myself. You should have a swing arm attached to it with two spring loaded L brackets to attach it to your cub. Of course the lower arms fit snuggly over the rear axle housings and the swing arm, whick I don't see on yours, should swing up under the rear fender pan on a WF. The spring loaded L brackets work just like the one on the QA decks, but the fit into the reinforced holes under the fenders, just above the rear axle housing. The Pecos were also advertised as a carry all and can be used without the leaf bags to haul wood, rocks, trash can, etc. They are very handy to have with incredible utility. The bag fills up quickly but it does a terrific job on the lawn. Mine are buried in a garage that I haven't been in for about 10 years. Take good care of your aluminum chutes that attach to your deck. They get broken up because people do not account for the extra width on the deck and run them into lots of things and the aluminum doesn't hold up well.

I have a picture of one of mine on one of my 149s in my profile on the 2nd page of "My Cubs". Again, congratulations on your lucky find. I hope you like them as much for their utility as I have. Great find, buddy!

You're very welcome. Just because it is winter does not mean they cannot be used. Like I said, Peco has a lot of year round utility to these units. If you burn wood, they can haul quite a bit. If your trash can has to be hauled a long distance, like I haul 2 trash cans about 120' for collection and through 5 inches of snow that is a "drag" ?, then the Peco can haul it. They also have great utility for a rear weight system, putting weight on the back tires where it is needed most, if you plow snow or have a front end implement. If the weather breaks and I remember what I did with the key to my garage, I will try to get some pics and measurements for you.
You may be able to rig something up with some steel dowel rods or an all thread rod, some nuts, etc to get it to those reinforced holes until you locate a bracket for it. Cub Cadet 123 |

I did use a piece of angle iron to bolt it to the tractor hitch so I could try it, see post #11. That seems to work ok. I definitely want to find a proper mount for it, if nothing else, just so it’s correct and complete. If I can’t find one, I can definitely rig up something like that, it sounds easy enough. |
