Need help with a 2206
 

Hello all,
Im currently working on a 2206 I picked up on marketplace. Ive got it all up and running well, but the mower deck spindles are trashed. My question is has anyone retro fitted these decks with the newer style 6pt star ones? I'd have to drill mounting holes to go from 3 to 4 bolts. Oem spindles are a little pricey for this project so Im looking for some aftermarket parts. Thanks in advance

You could replace the bearing in the current spindles.

Yeah I ordered 3 replacement bearing kits. But the pulleys are seized on the shaft, I bent one of them with a puller trying to get it off. So im thinking my options are new 4 bolt, 6 star spindles, drilling new holes to mount them. I haven't found any 16.5" 6 star blades either, so id need to trim and balance 17.25" blades. 😮*💨 seems like alot to go through but still cheaper than oem spindles @$200/ea plus pulleys...BTW the originals are pretty beat up. Which deck do you have?

I don't know the model number but its a 48". I can't find any numbers on the tractor except on the engine and the cover panel

I don't think your idea of red necking other spindles into your deck is a good one because....
A. You have to get the pulley plane on the top of the deck,
and the blade plane below deck in exactly the same plane they are now.
There are 50 million different spindles for sale out there and I have never seen specs given
as to how tall they are or how far apart the blade and pulley are. So which do you buy?
B. You said you already bought the bearing kits, so you already have money invested in correct parts.
Buying spindles that you have no idea will work could be money down the drain.
C. The pulleys may be seized or rusted to the shafts but with enough penetrating oil, heat, time, patience, etc. everything comes apart.
And even if you have to cut the pulleys off, as long as you don't ruin the shaft, they will be cheaper than three spindles that don't work.
D. You can use correct blades, not guess at what might work and grind them down to fit.

You do not have to remove the pulleys to install new bearings on those spindles. Remove the blades and the shaft can be removed from the housing. Then you can replace the bearing and races.

Fair enough. Sound advice. The pulleys were already damaged, is why I was trying to remove them. I actually got the idea from an old lawnmower mechanic I bought parts from. Ill see if I can get the original spindles to work...eventually. Thanks guys, I'll let yall know if it works once the repair kits arrive.
