What happen to the enthusiasm for the cub cadets and the willingness to pass on knowl
The title says it all, did the old school guys move to different sites or is there no longer any enthusiasm for the older cubs? I recall not long ago everybody there was a lot of info being shared or people were getting excited to start preparing there machines for snow removal and proud to show them off what happened? If your wondering the word in the end of the title is supposed to be knowledge but evidently there's a limit to how many characters you can have in the title?

I have a number of Cub Cadets that I enjoy upgrading, repairing and when time allows, restoring. For me, life is encroaching on my free time for this hobby and, as a result, less time to share and post here. I am grateful for the knowledge base and other resources available on this site. :beer2:

Not sure what knole is but... doing searches on this site and utube vids make it easy to find stuff, what do you need to knole?
|
Could be wrong, but I believe only the early JD’s had a Knole attachment available. Hard to find and harder yet to modify to a Cub.

A " Knole " is half-way to knowing something
"Knowledge " is when you know it all Oz |

I got a free 1863 12 years ago and joined this forum. I received a lot of help from the members here getting it repaired. When I go back and read that thread I see that some of those guys are dead now. Some are in their 70's and 80's and are less able to use and repair 25-30 year old tractors. Some of the guys who still have Cub Cadets don't use them to mow anymore. I don't remember ever asking for help on here and not getting a reply.

I have learned much and I also tried to pass on some of the tips or tricks I have learned. Its sad but true the guys before us are going to greener pastures RIP. I don't have a son to hand my cubs down to and my daughters could care less theres no grandsons at least not yet, so in my family the addiction dies with me. I guess the older cubs and the ability to work on them are going to be things of the past. |
Yes we are, but our knowledge remains on this site......

I don't want to sound all political, but perhaps if people would stop spending all their time on X (Twitter) or Facebook or whatever else people are doing these days, and spent more time fixing things! Ya know, asking for help and soaking in the knowledge of those who have come before us!
Buuuuut, I fear our days are numbered. The gas powered engines are a thing of the past, no way around it. We've got a finite amount of fossil fuels and unless they come u with a synthetic alternative, these machines will be museum material soon enough. But I personally don't want something I can't fix! So hopefully they will come up with a synthetic gasoline soon! |

My thinking of the lack of enthusiasm, particularly with all forums, is that the interests goes stale. Just like toys, tv shows, pinball machines, etc, etc. I'm speaking more of participation in the forums rather than the interest in Cub Cadets. Although, my interest in Cub Cadets doesn't go stale because my machines are work horses around my property and I like to keep them going. Coming to this site, I've learn a good deal and I like to help out others when I can. This forum site, for me, is just about the best of all forums. Mainly because this site has good knowledge and no spamming ads popping up all over the place. |

I thinks that's the real reason is people don't have the time or money or put into this stuff anymore. Everything is meant to throw away and grant instant satisfaction. |
Here in New England, folks are gobbling up super light-weight zero-turns and plastic, battery-powered lawn mowers and snow throwers from the big boxers so there are fewer people buying garden/lawn/yard tractors. Consequently there are less owners interested in our corner of the world so less contributors and less interest. Used parts tractor yards have seen a big drop in sales over the last 5 years. I know of one yard specializing only in Cub Cadets (from 1961-2000) that sent two, 40 yard dumpsters of Cub garden tractors to the scrap yard to get some type of return on investment. Plus it's getting close to impossible to source NOS OEM engine parts. Add to that the hot sub-compact market and the political threats of killing the ICE and here we are.
Fourteen years ago when I started purchasing and using Cub Cadets, every time I had a question I would create a new post. Today, if I have a question, I search it out here at the forum and get my answers without posting. This forum has EVERYTHING anyone could want to know and is BY FAR the BEST and MOST VALUABLE Cub Cadet forum ANYWHERE. I may not be posting but I visit everyday and I read everything. |
I also have noticed less activity on the forum from when I joined years ago, having used cubs as a kid in the 60's and owned cubs my entire life I try to visit the forum daily to see what's new even though I'm not usually posting. Likely some of the members that used to post almost daily have moved on or in some cases have passed on. I purchased ,refurbished and resold a few over the past 8-10 years but the past couple years it's getting hard to find 50 year old tractors in decent shape and getting harder to sell them in a timely fashion. I think some of this has to do with a lot of folks not mowing their own grass and if they are the younger generation for the most part want a zero turn so they can mow as fast as possible like they're running a race !This is a great forum and I'm glad to have been part of it ! I still enjoy using and maintaining my cubs !

Been pondering this thread for a couple days and for what it's worth.
Here are some thoughts. I have my 125, 124, and an 1862. After several years of working on them they are running great. For today anyway. This forum is my one and only experience with socializing via the web. It has been invaluable and fun as well, I check it everyday. My tractors are used constantly and my enthusiasm for them never wanes. As I work and maintain my machines I think of all you folks like myself. Who hang out alone in there shops day after day and just go about what they do. I have a feeling there are a lot of us. When I get on the site every day I always hope there might be a question about the older machines that I can help with. They are becoming far and few between. The machines and the questions that is. Most of the questions asked are for machines that I don't recognize and I feel pretty worthless too help. It also seems like most of the posters with the new machines don't really want to work on them but just want it fixed NOW cus they have to cut the grass. Where I live the odds of finding another machine to work on within 500 miles is pretty much nil. If I could find them I would buy them because I love the projects. Not really sure what all that rambling means but to say. I sure appreciate you all and the knowledge that is shared here. And certainly all that has been archived here, incredible. And to all you old guys hanging out in your shops by yourself working on stuff. There is at least one other guy in MT doing the same. If we were neighbors we would be doing it together I would hope. I Joined In 2010 and didn't start posting until 2021. If I had a question I'd usually Message and not bother with a new thread, or I'd ask Roland over On MTF because he'd usually checked in there daily before he passed. I spend most of My time In the Deere and Cub Cadet forums at MTF (I'm one of 3 founding members left at MTF That are still active as moderators). Then, I also spend a Lot of time at Green Tractor Talk and Red Square (Wheel Horse Forum). I have been restoring a Cub Cadet 3208. Finally, almost finished with that Money Pit. Just have to install new tires and repaint rims. When restoring, I am usually not very active on forums as I have no Internet In the Tractor Barn. I try to answer the Modern Cub Cadet questions when I can.
