Opinions of the 1650
 

I have a chance to get a 1650 thats in good shape (needs paint decals and some TLC). I have an Original, a 104 and a 149 and would like a QL series as I haven't fixed one up yet.

I would probably sell the 149 if I get it (only because storage is an issue) and I'm wondering what people think of the 1650. I have a front blade and back blade to fit it but the deck is in real nice shape. I do all my mowing with the 104 so thats not an issue. I prefer using the 104 over my new green thing to cut grass.

I'd like to hear back from 1650 owners.

Don't no much about QL's but I do know our new green thing backfires loud enough to cause heart attacks every time you shut it down. I would push it to the curb for the junk man and save the room for the 149, I've got two of them. Don't get me wrong I like the 108,128 and my129 but headlights and hydros are awsome when it comes to lifting a tiller or blowing snow at night!

Had a 1650 for a while and it was a great machine, had plenty of power to do anything I wanted it to do. Mow, plow, snow duty, grade, etc. I would run out of traction before I ran out of power.

Only thing that is a PITA can be the iso mounts, specially since the K341 is a monster to move if you dont have a few good friends or an engine hoist.

Trans is pretty easy to service with the removable tunner cover, never had any charging or electrical issues with mine either.

I would buy another in a second.

Sorry, don't own a 1650, but I'm in with CMA's129. I'd try to find a way of keeping the 149 if at all possible. I really like mine, but I also understand the finite space issue---we just don't have the heart to keep them outside!!:biggrin2.gif:

Well hopefully someone can tell you more. Kohler 16 hydro. drive. A hyd. lift attachment as standard equipment. Optional and a industry first, a front auxiliary hyd. outlet. Another first was the Maintenance Minder which let you know how long the motor was running, when it is time for oil changes and filter replacements. 50+ optional attachments for the QL's. After serial no.632502 you have a 1" wheel spindel comming from a 3/4 wheel spindel. I dont have one, but thought it was fun to help out a little.

I'd also go for the 1650, they are nice tractors. You can't beat the 16 hp Kohler, and hydraulic lift! I also agree with the other guys, I'd definitely find a way to keep the 149. :beerchug:

Even if I had enough storage I don't think I'd keep the 149. While I love it, all my spare time goes into these tractors now and if there is yet another one to work on I'd never leave the garage. Ever notice that even if they are working fine you find something to take apart and make better? Thats probably why I want the 1650, for the opportunity to clean another one up.


As for the green thing, it doesn't get garage space now and the only reason I keep it is because it has a nice bagger which is great in the spring for cleaning up the dead grass.

Well it sounds like the 1650 is a good choice for heavier work. Anyone have a loader on theirs? To me that is the ulitmate attachment.

btw - I'm assuming my WF blade and 1A tiller is going to work on this tractor, correct?

Yes they will. I've got a 1650 and love it but then I also got a 109, 129, 149 and a 169 and love all of them too. I would keep the 149 and keep the blade on it and put the tiller on the 1650. Its so nice to not have to worry about switching attachments, especially a tiller.

The JD 140H3 had front auxiliary hydraulic ports when they came out in 1968, and there was an option for rear auxiliary ports. I'm sure there were others.

I own a 1250 and im selling or parting it out. I dont like where the hydro lever is and i dont like the electric pto. I own 4- 149's 1-1250 and 2- 169's. 2 snow blades- 2 aq42 snow throwers- 2 44-inch decks - 2 - 42 inch decks- 2-# 2 tillers and 1 Ai tiller... I would def make room for the 149 because in my opinion that one of the best series that cub cadet ever made. I had a chance to buy a 1650 cheap but i would not have kept it i would have parted it out.

buddylee64- I'am sorry if i missed your ad placed in the "for sale" section because that is what you should do in regaurds to your IH 1250. Hope it helps you sell quicker!:American Flag 1:

Thanks to everyone who wrote in to my question about the 1650.
I had a chance to see it on the weekend and decided against it. It needs a lot of work and I just don't want to take on another project right now.

I'm keeping the 149 but have to admit it is driving me nuts with a hydro leak. I changed the cork gasket at the rearend, the gasket in the middle of the pump, the 3 seals that you can get to, and the big O-ring at the front of the charge pump. It's on jack stands in the garage and I ran it the other day. A couple of hours later there was a drip on the cardboard I placed under the tractor.
Last night I sprayed brake cleaner all over the tranny and I'll run it again.
Hopefully I don't have to tear it apart again. I don't mind pulling the thing apart but I hate losing oil all over the garage floor.

I, for one, am glad that you kept the 149. Maybe the 1650 will come by your way in the future and you'll look upon it with new eyes. As far as working on the 149, you might try a drain tank!!! Drain the fluid into a tank or some kind of open container so that it doesn't end up all over the garage floor. There's a lot of fluid back there and once it starts flowing, it does take a large tank to hold it all, but it is possible. I have a flattened, rectangular oil pan reservoir that I use to catch mine.

Oh I've drained the tank (cat litter pans work great but get the real deep ones) and yet no matter what there always seems to be oil all over the floor. It seems to come from no where. The you step in it and leave Hytran tracks all over.

So why do we love these tractors so much?

CMA's129 in reference to your JD backfire if you fail to throttle down for a few seconds before you turn it off it will backfire or the anti backfire fuel solenoid on the bottom of the carb bowl may be bad or stuck.
