Got the "O" today
Well i finaly met up with the guy that had the o sitting in his drive.I put in a sheetmetal plenum in his evaprotive cooler and he gave it to me on trade!!
Here is a few pictures,She's a bit beat, missing the hood and has a butchered steering but im really glad to have it!! http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w...oontrailer.jpg http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/ww256/67hydro/o1.jpg http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/ww256/67hydro/o2.jpg http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/ww256/67hydro/o8.jpg Came with this blade is it IH??? I belive the front bracket is but not sure of this blade. http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w...frontblade.jpg Came with this drag, whats the proper term?? harrow??Neat little thing the spikes fold up http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w...hydro/drag.jpg here is the steering this steering wheel is welded to a tube that goes through the origial steering tube and has another home made bracket on the bottom welded to it,it dont steer worth a darn and is very limited......still excited to have it!! http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w.../steering1.jpg http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w.../steering2.jpg No battery box?????........still excited to have it!!!LOL http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w...dro/batbox.jpg Maybe the battery box????,what do you guys think??? http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w...ro/2batbox.jpg This one will sit in the corner till Im finished with my other two projects the 123 and 70!Although I will see if i can get it running and start collecting the needed parts....steering column dash tower and hood!!!! Jason |
Looks like a real project! It's good that it now belongs to someone that can revive it and appreciate its worth.
|
Come on hydro67. Everyone wants to see the serial number. The tractor is probably glad to be away from patch and back to work. When you're done with her she'll have another half century to look forward to.:beerchug:
|
CBH
Yes it will be one heck of a project!!!In fact I was thinking of just leaving it alone and just replacing the necessary stuff, steering , hood......... RPalmer here ya go ,if I got the right location its a high one!!!! http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w...7hydro/ser.jpg June/july 1962 |
You got quite a project there, but the key parts are there.
That's a real early non-spring trip blade. Those are kinda rare. |
congratulations 67hydro :Woo:
Glad to see you saved another one  They are just cool looking tractors. |
Nice find! I'm betting that Originals are pretty rare around you.
LMAO, Be careful with that blade, if you hit something solid hiding under the snow it will give you a jolt! I make no apologies for the Originals being my favorite, once you get it finished you will love it. If you look around on that harrow you may find a Sears and Roebuck tag, probably made by Brinly. |
Nice Original Jason! Ya done good. Thanks for the pics.
|
Nice!! I know my favorite is the Original. I'd like to get another one someday.
Good luck getting it going! |
I'm happy for ya, good deal.

Great find on the O , especially since Cubs seem to be far and few between in your area.
Looks like IH wheel weights , not to hard to get but can be pricey. Oil bath air cleaner , nice to have to make it Original looking. Take it apart , all the ones i seen are nasty inside. Hopefully the AG tires are still good ??? That would be a plus !! It has been my experience that the hitch is HTF and pricey when you do find one , i think they make O's look even better. Did you get the helper spring by any chance ?? Non trip blade are HTF also. If you ever use it , be careful !! You could end up doing the James Bond ejection seat thing !!! All the other parts you need aren't hard to get if you decide to redo it , good luck !!! Darrell |
Thanks guys
Yosemite Sam, O riginals are a bit rare around these parts, although cubs are rare i belive in california!!Not much snow here!!, but plenty of sand. Darrell, The ags are ok,besides one being mounted backwards!!,They have great tread and are still flexible,BUT there is a crack in the sidewall of one,all four tires have tubes the flat one in the front blew up when we pushed it to the trailer!! I dont belive it has the helper spring although honestly i havent investigated everything yet just the obvious!! Jason |
Wow Jason, great find.
You have a lot of goodies there..... non-trip blade, wheel weights, three point, oil bath air cleaner, and the pan seat looks good. The steering box and wheel should be no problem or the hood. That was the battery box you have there. The battery just sits on those two flat spots on the pedestal and metal went around it. Looks like a decent harrow too. Have fun with it, there is something about the OCC's that is just cool. I love how they sit and drive. Randy |
Now that's a good way to get compensated!
Ever thought about installing a 14 or 16 hp engine on that thing? You could then call it THE BIG O. |
Randy
I straightened out the bat. box this afternoon, thinking about welding it back on.I just want to get it going for now,Cant imagine why the P.O. tore it off besides maybe the welds poped. I cant imagine why they tryed to paint it red ither...????...Looks like the took gallon and climed up on the roof of the house and threw it at it,its real runny!!! I agree JCrews I love to barter for things, took me about an hour to put the sheetmetal in and seal it up,I offered him 100 for it and he accepted,he looked at my service van and asked what i did for the company,he had a job i can do for him for the tractor.I dont want to put a 16 horse in it but i dream of putting a 16 horse in my # 1 123.Did you see that 100 with the 14 horse chris w is selling its beautiful!! Yosemite Sam Your right its branded both david bradley and sears, the harrow, found the tag by the hitch Darrell I lied the ags are cracked all over, still flexible though,Its a shame they still have that ribbion/casting down the center |
Question
Is the spindles "larger" on an original??? I tried to put a rim off my 70 onto the O to push it into the garage and it wouldn't go the bearings are smaller on the 70 rim.:biggrin2.gif::bigthink: Jason |
67Hydro: The Originals do NOT have front wheel bearings...They have bushings !!....and of course grease Zerks to keep 'em lubed...
Myron B |
I think the front spindles on an O are 7/8".
|
I just MIGHT know of a steering wheel and hood source ;) :biggrin2.gif:
|
Good to know Myron!!!
Thanks Matt your a wealth of knoledge!!! (ment to be a compliment!!) By the way you also Myron you two are invaluable!! Thanks Jason |
67hydro,... Congradulations, I think you made a great trade,... tractor,... 3pt.,... dozer blade,... wheel weights,... and a harrow. (that's darn good) :beerchug: :biggrin2.gif:

AWESOME SCORE JASON!!!!!! You're really going to enjoy driving that Original. I know I always do with mine. Keep us posted on your progress with the Original. Take care good buddy!!!!

Jason, there is an Original steering column on epay this week (Original steering coulmns are the only thing that will work in an Original)... The guy says it's "rebuilt" not sure what rebuilt means to him but he has 100% feedback. It has no bids and is at $50.00 (not a bad price). The coulmn only has two days and 19 hours to go, you might want to take a look.

Thanks Alot Jason |
Couple questions Guys,
Where is the voltage regulator suposed to mount??? I think i see it on matts o in his avatar but id like to see a picture. Also on the grill emblem, what is it suposed to be made of,plastic, aluminum,or cast steel??And what color is the "sides" suposed to be?? Ive seen a few white and a couple crome/aluminum colored. Thanks alot,Jason |
Grille emblem is some sort of cast aluminum or pot metal, not sure which. The sides are white. Chrome ones are correct for 82 series tractors.
|
Hey Jason!!!! How's it going good buddy!!!!

You DONT have to go out tonight and get the pics its getting late, just when you get a chance Thanks alot sir Jason |

Hey Jason!!!! How's it going good buddy!!!
Well Jason, I went out and took some pics of the steering connections. I'm pretty sure our good buddy JayBrd can get you better pics than these, since he's fixin' to do a tear down on his tractor. Hope this helps though??? Sorry for all the grease around the steering connections. I always try to keep plenty of grease around the steering department, making sure that nothing ever locks up under there. Take care good buddy!!!! http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/c...00111Small.jpg http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/c...00081Small.jpg http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/c...00061Small.jpg |

Man! I want another Original...
|
Ok
I took the clutch apart this morning,What a mess!!! Got one question,How hard do you think it will be to find #14 in the picture below,Clutch release collar???? Mine has a hole wore in the side and is a general mess, the rest looks ok.Could someone post some pictures of the release collar and the pressure plates?? Im qurious what the material is to look like.Ill try to get a camera tuesday and post some pics. http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w...inalclutch.jpg Also the third hole back in the drive shaft, closest to the rear end,is that to go all the way through the drive shaft??,and have a spirol pin, mine does not and had a peice of wire kinda twisted around the shaft holding the spring, witch I broke off in the shaft!!! My 70 has a spirol pin there holding the spring and washer. Thanks Jason |
Hey Jason!!! How's it going good buddy!!!!
Jason, you can find part #14 at Carter & Gruenewald. Carter & Gruenewald calls it the Collar Clutch Assembly, and it's priced at $103.81 plus $8.00 to ship it. By the way, the third hold that is placed at the very end of the Drive Shaft does go all the way through. And it should have a Thin Spiral Pin going through it, to hold the Pressure Spring along with a washer. One more thing Jason, make sure to buy new Thrust Washers(2) and a new Thrust Bearing(1). Or else your Original will have a bad take off. I learned that one the hard way.lol Let me know if you need anything else. I'll be more than happy to help you out. Take care good buddy!!!! |
