Removing old decal adhesive on my 1872

I've tried lots of cleaners, some pretty powerful ones - not paint remover yet. I would like to get this goo off so I can paint followed by another set of decals.

If you have found a magical decal remover, please share! TIA Steve

How about heat, like from a Hair Dryer ??

I used an industrial heat gun to remove most of the decal and enamel reducer to remove of what adhesive remained on my 1811. To ensure that the finish is not harmed by the reducer you are using, try on a hidden area. 3M does market adhesive remover.

To remove the sticky goo that remains try Eucalyptus oil

Little bit of heat and some pb blaster will do the trick.

Of course clean really well with acetone or something before putting the new decal on.

Thanks for all the suggestions, good ideas all. I need to get a plastic squeegee/scraper(s), some Rapid Remover and Eucalyptus oil. I have a heat gun and most anything else mentioned. Steve

Heat gun or hair dryer to remove decal. Acetone will make short work of the adhesive. Wear gloves.

The other day I was replacing the adhesive 6" sanding disc in my benchtop belt/disc sander.

After a battle with it, I had the paper portion of the old disc peeled off but there was quite a bit of adhesive still left on the disc.

I tried using acetone on a rag to get the adhesive off, but all it seemed to do was soften it and smear it around.
It wouldn't wipe off with the rag but it enabled me to scrape a lot off with a razor blade.

I still wanted the disc cleaner and looked around the shed for some other type of solvent.
I found I had some xylene and tried that.
It worked perfect, all the adhesive wiped off easily with a rag.

I don't know if the xylene would have worked like it did before the acetone or if it was a combination of the two, but that's my story.
Hope it helps.

This is useful information. I went and checked the MSDS on olds45512's suggestion of using Rapid Remover and it seems to contain xylene among the ingredients. I have been noticing that when using acetone, it gums up the adhesive residue when I clean my 16" disc sander. It eventually comes clean after quite a chore. I will try xylene next time! Wear gloves!

High proof hand sanitizer has worked most times for me as well as lighter fluid.

I haven't had a chance to try any of the suggestions yet. Beside the wet and cold days lingering on I find myself fighting some health issues. It may be awhile before I get back to playing/having fun with my tractors.
