Installing a 44A deck on a 122

In a previous post, I got a parts 128 and wanted to use the deck on my 122. MattC gave me some good info and I managed to get the deck installed but I’m still trying to figure out the belt size. I have a few belts, one that was in use on the 122 with a 48” deck, and two that came with the 128 and one had been on that tractor with the deck, but neither fit this set up. Has anyone else tried this setup? Should the IH-473462-R4 belt fit? I don’t want to order that belt and have it not fit, and I don’t think TSC stocks anything close to this size to try and match one up, so I’m kind of stuck at the moment.

Time to get out the rope...

Yeah. I’m measuring about 80” so the 3/8” x 81 (OD) should fit, I think. I think I’ll take the two belts that are one too big and one too little to TSC and put them in the belt measurement tool and see what size they are. Maybe neither are right,

Use the roll out method:
No,
I don't mean hang yerself like Minion suggested just yet.:biggrin2:
Put a white mark in the inside of the belt, chalk magic marker etc.
line up the mark with one you put on the floor, or a crack, or edge of a bench etc.
and carefully roll out the belt till the mark reappears, your tape measurer will
will tell you the belt length exactly.
Try it twice just to make sure.
Now belts are identified in several ways, but I will not go into that just now.
---just google it.:beerchug:

Thanks George, but I wasn't talking about measuring the belt to 80", I meant running a string through the pulleys I'm measuring 80". Belt guessing has always been an issue for me, if I don't know the exact size, I usually end up buying three different sizes and returning the ones that aren't right.

So, the smaller belt measures 77" and actually has an IH number on it, but I can't make it all out, what I think it is returns nothing. The longer belt measures 83". So, I got an 81" and I'm hoping it'll fit.

We got it on, the 81" is the winner, just like it said. I have no idea what these two other belts are, the one was running the old 48" deck like said, and the other was running this deck on a 128, obviously neither were the right ones for either application but somehow still were on there. The 81" is a perfect fit. :beer2:

Glad you got it! now mark it down where you will not forget it, like under the
belt cover.:beerchug:

Is that a 3/8 belt ? A IH-473462-R4 is 81" long and 3/8"

I think I'm going to sell the 44A. I don't like it on the 122. I mowed once with it and now my engine is blowing some blue smoke, the deck put quite a strain on the engine. Granted my grass was higher than it should have been, but I think it should have done better. The 12hp doesn't seem to have enough power to really bear down on higher grass, and the deck jams up. I think I'll just use this tractor as my dedicated blower tractor and for dragging my cart around.
