What new tools have you got recently?

Just a place to show off and talk about the tools you recently bought/acquired.

I sharpened the blades on my neighbors tractor, and he gave me this old bumper jack as payment. It works, but needs the moving parts oiled up from sitting. I’m going to make a bracket to go on it for lifting tractors.

From the people that brought you Covid-19 by way of Dayton/granger, this arrived today.
it made quick work of some beef jerky I had and my fast thinking foxhound/great dane appreciated it falling on the ground!
I have to find something more challenging to cut now.

That is an "oldie"and a goodie, I'd be guessing 1950's, remember the one I used to borrow from my wife's dad back in the mid 60's
It went to his son after he passed, but son is gone now, as is the bumpers that vehicles had to lift under.
handy thing it is!

We have 2x 3 ton bumper pneumatic jacks. We still get them to work on a lot of cars with plastic bumpers.. We also have used one on either side to lift cars from the pinch welds if the 2 post lift was occupied and we needed to pick up another car.

Ya, I have a pneumatic one now also it is an oldie too, but I liked the hydraulic one better, I never liked lifting on the bumpers, always preferred the
Frame, or stubs or bumper brackets in that order.
I really dislike lifting on the pinch welds, but that is how it's done today.
Made a set of pinch weld pads for my daughters New Camaro, but still prefer a solid lifting point.
Aw well move ahead or backslide.:beerchug:

What a cool Jack, great way to get a paycheck, so much more valuable
then cash.

That's a pretty impressive knife spndncash. What are you going to be using it for?

john hall 08-06-2020 09:24 AM

That's a rather neat looking jack, can't say I have ever seen one. If I had more room in the shop I'd love to have something like that for lifting lawnmowers. I have a small one that was given to me, but its a deathtrap for a "normal" Cadet. Tried lifting my 1811--it cleared it about 2" before literally shooting the jack out the front at me. Just bad physics on its design, and too wimpy to do the job. Not sure How I even feel about it on the "box store" series mowers some of the family has.

patchwork on a Farmall Cub fenders, body and fuel tank. afterward some MGTD body work. my freehand work with the Plasma cutter is not pretty on thin material

rsshallop 08-06-2020 07:00 PM

Well good luck with that. I hope it turns out great.

May not be a tool per-say but I did get a new size 80 tank of 75-25 gas for my mig welder, I don't use a lot of gas so I went ahead and bought the tank out right.

I should have done this a long time ago, But the wife was not to happy when she found out what I spent on it.

Not the first time she's not been happy and may not be the last time. But i'am happy so we can live with it.

As long as the bottle is certified ( date stamped on tank is current, not expired), they will increase in value as the price goes up.

I got this electric hoist today and suspended it in the garage. $110 for a 440lb lift from Amazon plus $34 for the 5' bar it's hanging from.

I need this as well.

West Valley G 04-02-2021 09:38 AM

Money well spent Radioguy. You well find whole lot of uses for it that you
haven't even thought of yet.

A hoist is a great back saver. A friend gave me an old 1/2 ton air hoist last year. Had to replace a hose and make a couple gaskets.

Got me a BOSCH Freak a few months back from CPO outlets. Man I love that thing. It's a 1/4" drill driver with a 1/2" impact on it as well.
The one I bought was a left over, as they came out with a new model
that has a few more RPM, and a little bit more torque IIRC. Mine does
150ftlbs. so if people used a torque wrench on your lugs, it'll break most lugs
free, but kids with air tools, working as tire installers.... :bigthink:

New Saw

I added a Klutch 5"X4" Metal cutting band saw, saved over $100.00 on it so I just had to jump on it, May not get a lot of use out of it but so far it's working out great.

Now If only I can come up with a hot deal on a mill/drill machine like I want, or maybe a lathe?
Sometimes I miss my old day job.

Lincolnmania 05-19-2022 01:46 AM

obd2 Scan tool, a friend on youtube gave it to me, ancel 2000.
battery tester.
borescope
ryobi cordless blower.

CubDieselFan 05-28-2022 11:16 PM

I got a 18 volt Makita string trimmer. My Husqvarna gas is hard to start, I wish I had gotten a Sthil. Anyway, I bought the Makita on Saturday, used a whole battery trimming and it is not too bad. Took some getting use to. Went to use it on Sunday afternoon and it would not work. Returned it today,

This isn't new but I don't like to post tools until they've been run through the mill and proven their worth. About 3 years ago I needed to replace my cordless drill and after a bunch of research I settled on this Teccpo (Amazon). After nearly 3 years I can honestly say I love this thing. It's smaller than the standard cordless but is actually heavier. I just finished redecking the front porch with Trex and used this to drive nearly 500 stainless steel deck screws with just 1 change of battery. I use it for everything from shed roof repairs to tractor fixes.

Frank1541 08-04-2022 10:30 AM

I got a Milwaukee M18 Surge impact wrench. This is the hydraulic version. I have used it for a year now and I have nothing but good things to say about it. I wish I had gotten a hydraulic impact wrench a lot sooner. So much quieter than a standard unit.

new to me tools

Well, I've added two new to me tools in the last month or so. I picked up a Bison FPU high test bench vise. It's made in Poland so the front jaw is fixed and the rear jaw is the one that moves. I like this as it keeps all the work over the bench when working on bigger things. If I have to use a BFH, I move to my post vise and have at it. Then today, I added a 400# manual Hoyer patient lift that will be used as a "Engine Lift". It has over 5' of from the floor, so it will do fine for working on my Cub's . Nice thing about the Hoyer is, there is only one bolt to loosen and it takes down in two parts. It will be great to take to my off site storage unit when I need to load the 16 HP B&S engine into the back of my trunk to bring home.

Now I need to find me a nice bench top Milling machine.

Makita cordless grease gun. Harbor freight parts cleaner.

IHinIN 08-31-2022 11:07 PM

Got a Metabo HPT 12” siding compound miter saw to use for my deck build. Should have bought one years ago. My old 10” single bevel saw is limited with what it can do.

I've had one of these for more than 60 years but when I saw the condition vs the price I grabbed it. How many guys know what it is? :bigthink:

I for one have no clue. I would probably try to pit cherries or core apples
with it.

Piston ring groove cleaner

ol'George 09-06-2022 10:25 PM

It cleans the carbon/crud out of ring grooves on pistons.
It has a "turret" with different size scrapers for different size ring grooves.
It beats the shit out using a broken ring stuffed in a file handle, but I've used that method over 60 years.
-----too late to change now, Ha,LOL! :biggrin2:

Radioguy41 09-06-2022 10:43 PM

Yep, piston ring groove cleaner. It's funny when you find stuff like this at a flea market or yardsale and the guy selling it doesn't even know what it is. :)

Farmall450 09-07-2022 10:17 PM

It was time to get these after my dad's Cornwell has saved my rear more than once.

https://www.amazon.com/Lang-Tools-52.../dp/B007TX0HS6

(FYI, Lang is the OEM for Cornwell).

West Valley G 09-07-2022 10:42 PM

Now those are intriguing. Have never seen them before. My list sure gets
long.

Good in situations you'd otherwise have to take off other parts to get to the screws.

Cub Cadet WST 100

I got a Cub Cadet WST 100 brand new. The WST 100 is Cub Cadet’s wheeled string trimmer. It always starts 1st or 2nd pull and it has really cool looking black wheels. It has worked great for my trails in the woods and other overgrown grass. I would definitely recommend the product!

steelsmith 12-10-2022 06:47 PM

new granite surface plate

I was looking for a thick piece of glass to use as I surface plate, but I ended up with a piece of granite counter top sample that is 1-1/2"X12"X18" for less then $20.00 .
I can stand it upon end on my tool box bench in back of my box and it's safe and out on the way, don't need help to get it out to use and it doesn't move around when I use it.
So if you want / need a good surface plate keep an eye out , the place I got mine from had over 15 pieces for sale .
Now if I can come across some bigger wet/dry sheets I will be good to go.

For you guys that have Hydros that you can't move without the engine running you could get a pair of these. I've used them several times under the rear wheels to move a tractor around the shop. Got them at Harbor Freight.

These are commonly called engine degreasers. I recently bought a cheap one for the garage to clean up the hard to reach places in the partially disassembled 149. They do need a decent compressor, but they will spray pretty much any liquid, from soap to solvent. This one has a mixture adjustment but lacks the thumb shutoff for fluid that the expensive ones have.

They are great for where a pressure washer is just way too much. Put some hot degreaser in a bucket and you can do a very controlled clean up pretty quick.

tap & die

I bought SAE & Metric tap and die set. I needed it for a Predator engine swap I am doing, and figured it would be best to have the complete set. Good to have and can clean up threads, if need be too.
