Plow Day in NC

We have finally done it! My friend Robert and I have arranged for a plow day in NC. We found a farmer that has had plow days before but with big tractors. Now he is going to let us join them.

The event will be held in Albemarle NC. About 45 min due east of Charlotte. It will be held on the second weekend of September on Saturday the 11th. Time is still unknown but im sure it will be started by 9:00am

Jim Moore is the man who's land we will be on and he said it would be fine if you came the night before to camp. No hookups and "don't catch his woods on fire!"

Address: 44273 Moutain View Church Rd. Albemarle NC, 28001

You can PM me if you have more questions or concerns. I hope to see some of you there especially the NC boys.

By the way, Mr Jim says this is some of the hardest red clay in NC so be prepared for that. I dont really know how to tell you to prepare, but we're gonna give it our very best!

ACecil 08-02-2010 10:55 PM

Sounds good, David! Thanks for the info.

Methos 08-03-2010 03:41 AM

David, This is great news! I guess this means I've got to put my engine back in the 122 and get it ready to plow. Work has slowed down so I should be able to make this. Will need help with the plow setup tho. Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Iluvtruks0 08-03-2010 06:27 AM

Vince and some of his buddies from SC will be coming up. Vince started the "Redneck PlowDays" in Pickens SC so there will be some experienced plow junkies attending. They will be coming up and spending the night. Actually the night before, in Oakboro NC, there will be a lawn mower pull and they want to attend it and maybe even participate. I think this is going to be a pretty good thing!

ACecil 08-03-2010 12:33 PM

I'm looking forward to it, David!

Iluvtruks0 08-03-2010 10:17 PM

Just to update. After our meeting tonight, The Dixie Turf Toys said they would provide the Port-A-Jon and they will be cooking hamburgers and hot dogs that will be available for purchase. Get those Cubs ready guys!

ACecil 08-03-2010 11:43 PM

I'm not sure yet, if I'll have a cub at PD.

Methos 08-04-2010 04:23 AM

Sounds like it's coming together nicely David. Allen your 100 can pull a plow.:biggrin2.gif: What the status of your 149?

ACecil 08-04-2010 07:43 AM

Hey Duke, I don't have the sleeve hitch, to be able to use a plow for the 100. Hopefully, the 149 may be ready in time, but I'm not sure. :beerchug:

Nick, my buddy is working on it. It needs a few things to be plow ready. :beerchug:

Vince_o 08-15-2010 05:01 PM

OK IM here! Cant wait to get in the dirt up in Nc in a few weeks. I got brakes on the 106 yesterday, like you really need them pulling a plow. Now I need to get the 582 O ring in and the 3pt and all on it. I hope to have that done by this weekend coming. I have Allen a 3pt and a spring if someone can get him a brinly adapter and the lower piece that bolts to the rear and he can borrow some ones plow he can be plowing with us. Anyone want to try and help me throw it all on Sat morning cause I plan to be at the pulls Fri night. Wont take but an hour to do it, and a bunch of cusing and lying on your back.

Ill have the 582 106 and the 100 up there so if we cant get it on Allen you can ride one of mine again. Im planning on heading to a bunch of these this fall. If any of the turff guys wanna take a days ride the one in Bama is a good one to go to also. Im planing on one in Athens Tenn with the deere guys and they would like some of the Ih guys to come. Ive meet a bunch of them in bama and real good guys, even if they are color blind!

Daduke

I got your message today and Kathy and i havent even talked about it. I did get close on the map. You should here from me towards the end of the week. Oh and I was napping when you called! LOL

Methos 08-15-2010 05:14 PM

Looking forward to meeting you at the PD. Oh we like pictures here! Looking forward to turning some dirt over with everyone!

:WWP:

ACecil 08-15-2010 06:52 PM

Great to see you back, Vince! Guess what, I already have a plow. We'll be getting it at PD.

Vince_o 08-15-2010 11:36 PM

Ok so all we need is the brinly adapter and I talked to duke tonight and he said he has the piece to bolt on to the rear.

Now how many suckers, I mean good harted people can we get to get Allens tractor plowing EARLY that morning?

Vince_o 08-16-2010 01:31 PM

ACecil 08-16-2010 02:30 PM

Sounds good to me, Vince. I really appreciate the help!

Methos 08-30-2010 10:49 AM

We are less then 2 weeks out! Time for a roll call!

I'll be there with my 122 and maybe a friend that wants to see what all this fuss is about. hehe

ACecil 08-30-2010 12:10 PM

My wife and I, along with the 100, if nothing happens.

ACecil 09-02-2010 12:42 PM

I'm ready for plow day, guys! The 100 will be set up to plow next week! :IH Trusted Hand:

Methos 09-02-2010 01:59 PM

I'll be putting the final touches on my 122 this weekend for PD. I'm getting really exicted. Looking forward to meeting new people and seeing some cubs! I've got to get some picture's of your 100 Allen. Not sure which camera I'll be bringing and if my buddy will be coming or not but I'll be there and some dirt will be plowed and some picture's will be taken!

ACecil 09-02-2010 02:28 PM

I hear ya, Duke! We'll have our camera too.

Iluvtruks0 09-02-2010 03:33 PM

I hope we can prove the land owner wrong next weekend. He doesnt even think these garden tractors will be able to break the ground but i think hes going to be in for a rude awakening.

Just a few reminders:
The land owner- Jim Moore- bleeds IH red and you'll see why when you get there. Hes a great guy and knows his stuff but i wouldnt want to get on his bad side. This is probably the 4th year in a row he has had a plow day on his property but its always turned out to just about 5-10 tractors plowing. I think there will be around 20 garden tractors this time and who knows how many big tractors. With that said, yes, he is still having the Tractor plow day as well but if i remember correctly, he is going to let us go before the the big boys.

Dry camping is available and porta-jons are being provided at Jims expense.

Last i checked, the Dixie Turf Toys club will be selling hamburgers and dogs for lunch so bring your appetite for good food and red clay

FYI for all of you non-originals to the area, my Grampa always told me the clay is red from all that Yankee blood. HA. love him

Lastly, please just keep in mind this is Jim Moores plow day and everything is out of his pocket. I dont think he intends on charging anything but it couldnt hurt to throw a few bucks his way. And of course, everyone is responsible for their own actions.
Lets all have fun, throw some dirt and show these old timers what these Cub Cadets will do.

Cya in a week and 2 days

Iluvtruks0 09-04-2010 05:25 PM

Ok guys, here is the field report from yesterday evening. Robert and I went out there to Jim's field just to make a test run with his Cub Cadet. Mr Jim was so sure we couldnt plow with these little babies we had to make sure before everyone came out. Dropped the plow in the solid red clay and after a few adjustments, the dirt was starting to roll like it should. I was kind of scared the way Jim spoke about his dirt but now im not so intimidated. Here are my thoughts on what you will need for your plow tractor.

A LOT of rear weight. The cub yesterday had loaded tires and one set of rear weights and i highly think it will need more. Had 40 lbs on the front and that seemed fine but we were loosing traction more than i would prefer.

Make sure your tractor is ready for a full and hard day of work. This aint no backyard garden spot! This clay is gonna make your engine work like there's no tomorrow.

Can't wait for a week to get here!!!

Methos 09-04-2010 08:59 PM

Thanks for the update David. I'm hoping for rain Wednesday or Thursday to loosen the clay up a bit. I'm stuck with loading my tires and my single set of wheel weights. I hope that's enough.

Going to have fun no matter what!

ACecil 09-04-2010 10:35 PM

I'm going to have one set of wheel weights also.

Cecil, do you plan on plowing with the rear duals? Or, do you remove one set of rear wheels/tires? I'm guessing that with a given amount of weight, you'll get more downward pounds per sq. inch without the duals? I'm curious.

ACecil 09-04-2010 11:37 PM

Yep, I won't be using the duals for plowing. Later on, I'll be adding another set of wheel weights.

Methos 09-06-2010 10:31 PM

Went to load the tire's and they are already loaded @ 85 lbs each. My wheel weight's got painted and installed today. I think I have diffrent wheel weight's then what I've seen posted and from what I've read in the manual. They should be 26 lbs each but mine are 35 lbs each. I'll try and get some pics posted of them with the casting #'s. We're 5 day's out and I'm super stoked to be going and turning over some dirt! Looking forward to meeting everyone and having fun!

ACecil 09-07-2010 12:16 PM

Looks like rain is in the forecast for Saturday.

Allen The Weather Channel is showing partly cloudy 85/66F with no chance of precip, looks good to me.

ACecil 09-07-2010 12:47 PM

I hope so, Duke. I was watching our local news, and they were calling for rain Saturday. Let's hope it stays dry.

Methos 09-07-2010 12:50 PM

I'm hoping it stays dry as well. There is a 40% of rain Sunday tho.

ACecil 09-07-2010 01:23 PM

Hopefully, it will be dry. I'm ready for some fun! :beerchug:

Methos 09-10-2010 09:02 AM

83 High 64 Low with a 30% chance of PM showers!

We should be good to go plowing!

Iluvtruks0 09-10-2010 09:43 AM

Duke,
I got a plow from Terry that is sold to a friend of yours. Terry isnt sure he is going to be there so he gave it to me to deliver to the PD. He said its for someone named Allen. Is it for ACecil on here? Just wondering. Its in great shape. I wish i had bought it

Methos 09-10-2010 09:57 AM

That would be Allen's plow. I talked to Terry last weekend and he gave me the heads up. I called Allen and he'll be looking for you for his plow. I was hoping Terry could make it he's such a great guy to be around. Thanks for getting the plow for Allen I think he's more stoked then I am!

I'll be making a stop off at his place after the PD to pick up acouple of things, look at a tractor or two. Plus checking out that 100. A full day of plowing and cubs and some other brands going to be a great day no matter what happens!

ACecil 09-10-2010 11:21 AM

That's me, David! I'm looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow. As of today, the 100 is ready to plow!
