What did I just do!!!!!
1 Attachment(s)
A teaser for all of you. I just started a new project tractor to install my Kwik/Way loader on. I want it on a super so I started searching for a super frame or a project tractor. Thanks to Merk I bought a 2182 with the engine tied up so I had my start. The tractor has no plastic so I decided to see about installing a 82 series hood grill etc. I installed a Command twin and the wiring harness from a 1984 I parted out and I have the sheet metal fitted. I was able to keep the tilt wheel and the command dash tower. I did not cut up the hood or side panels. So who wants to guess how I made it fit????? It will look like a factory job when It is finished and painted. If it works out it will also have a single headlight so I can still call it a Cyclops :biggrin2::biggrin2: Pictures later today if I get it all bolted back together. This is just a teaser.

Looks like an interesting project. Keep us updated. |
Ya made it fit by using Frankenstein bolts!
So are you going to call it "Frank" or Johnny (as in Cash?) :bigthink: Maybe use 3 headlights so when you turn the switch, all 3 will come on. Since I put John Deere power steering on my 782, I hear voices in my head singing "she thinks my tractor is sexy" so be fore warned :biggrin2: |
I know......not telling

So far fitting the sheet metal has been the easiest part. I had to l add three inches to the driveshaft and repair the 1864 wiring harness due to PO mods. It does run and drive Has a great hydro and engine sounds good. Steering is tight. Shgould make a real good loader tractor. |

Looks like a nice project!

Time for guessing games!!!!
Before I post any more pictures, any one care to venture a guess on how I made this work? The hood and side panels are not cut or added on to, The cyclops tower, hydraulics, dash plastic and tilt wheel are still used. It looks factory both under the hood and on the outside. Surely one of you has to have a clue. It really was not that hard to do. My next project is to install a cyclops dash and tower with tilt wheel and triple hydraulics in my 28 hp EFI powered 1872 Super that is my mowing tractor and avatar photo.
Thanks:beerchug: tom PS I will reveal how i accomplished this in a later posting with pictures. |
Very nice! Looking forward to your updates.

Time for an update and some progress pictures.
To start I removed the dash cover and installed the hood, grill and side covers. Attachment 101728 Looks like I need to shorten the tower some. I first removed 1-1/2 inches from the tower. Attachment 101729 Tower cut and tack welded to test fit. I later removed another 1/2 inch from the tower. Attachment 101730 Dash plastic reinstalled and side of tower plastic trimmed to allow side covers to fit up to tower. You can see that the dash plastic needs some rework to allow hood to fit. Attachment 101731 I cut the lip off from the sides of the dash plastic to allow the hood to close down. I then ground the back edge of the hood to allow it to better fit the shape of the dash. to the dash plastic. As you can see it now fits down around the dash. Attachment 101732 Lip trimmed off the plastic. Attachment 101733 Side of dash plastic trimmed to allow the side covers fit up to the tower and the opening for the tunnel cover cut to allow the cover to fit up. I shortened the bottom of the cover two inches to match what I shortened the tower. Attachment 101734 Dash reassembled along with the wiring, battery shelf and the slightly re bent Hyd lines. I reshaped the firewall to match the sheet metal hood and side covers. Attachment 101735 Command engine installed and all hooked up. I removed the throttle stop to convert it to a CH-20. Had add three inches to the driveshaft to use it with the shorter engine. Attachment 101736 Side covers bolted in place. Attachment 101737 View with hood closed. Attachment 101738 I am very happy with how this is turning out. The engine runs like a top and the hydro and steering are very precise and smooth. Next is to fill in the hole in the hood and paint the hood and sides white. I also want to come up with a cyclops style headlight for it. I then will modify my loader sub frame to fit the longer wheelbase super frame. Attachment 101739 Hope you are enjoying my latest project. To me this is the way the Cyclops should have been built using sheet metal instead of junk plastic. Later, Tom |
Looks very nice, no cobble job there:beerchug:

If you could add foot control you'd have the perfect Cub Cadet!

Top notch work!

Wow! Truly a work of art I like it :beerchug:

Thanks guys.
I removed the loader from my 1650 and started modifying the sub frame to work on the 2182 I had to do some trimming on the area where it bolts to the frame near the steering cylinder mount on the tractor and drill some different holes in the sub frame. I will also have to change the mounting points for the diagonal braces that go from the uprights to the front of the tractor frame. The power steering cylinder is in the way. I will probably just lengthen them to able be go to the holes in the front of the frame right under the grill. In the back since the super is longer I made up some angle iron brackets to use existing holes in the frame in front of the rear axle and also use the existing mounting holes in the loader frame. I have a set of axle braces on order and will use them tie all of this together. I do not have any pictures yet but will post some when I get farther along. So far it all looks good. |
Loader install progress
4 Attachment(s)
Just about finished with the modifications to my kwik-way loader so I can install it on my new super. I had to do a bunch of grinding and rewelding to repair previous owner botched repairs. At one time in its life this loader must have been used ad a battering ram. I could not believe all of the cracks and bad welds. all of the mounting holes were all egged out like it was used with them loose. It must have had the damage done before it was mounted on the 1650 it was on because that tractor is in great shape and none of the holes in the frame where the loader attached are egged out. I hope to finish up today and paint the subframe and upright supports. I will paint the main frame of the loader later as I have some repairs I want to do to it.
Left side attaching point for subframe.I had to trim to fit shape of frame and drill new holes to use existing holes in the tractor frame. Attachment 101910 Right side of subframe mount Attachment 101911 Rear axle support braces installed and L bracket to mount rear of subframe. Again I used existing holes in the tractor frame. I plan on drilling a hole in the L bracket and through the axle support brace and bolt them together to add further strength and support. Attachment 101912 I had to make new diagonal braces to go to the uprights because the power Steering cylinder was in the way of the existing mounts on the subframe. I made a bracket that bolts to the front of the frame. I need to cut the tubes to length and drill them so I can bolt to bracket. With some luck I should have the loader installed Saturday. Thanks for this thread, I have the same situation pretty much. I have a 2182 with no motor or hood and a johnson 10 loader that is currently on a wheel horse.

Tom, how is this project coming along? I was hoping to see some pictures before long.
|
If a Cyclops super had a steel nose and foot controls it would just about be the perfect garden tractor.

Tom, that is very nice. I wish I had one just like it.
|
Thank you Richard. I use it every chance I get. Sure saves my back.
|
Great work as always Tom and I like the hood decal too. Does that say "Loader Special"?
|
Are those the fenders that I sold to you?
|
Love it, you did a great job!!
Can't wait to get started on mine. Randy |
Thanks guys. Richard, no the fenders were on the 2182 that I built the loader tractor from when I bought it. The engine, wiring and some misc parts came from the 1864 I bought from you. The fenders from that 1864 are on my 1872 mowing tractor that I put the 28 hp efi engine in. The hood and sheet metal come from various tractors I parted out. It really is a Mutt when you think about it. Thing is it is so handy to have around.

That looks awesome

Thanks guys. As I said it is really handy. The wife and I use it all of the time to move and lift things. It is really a back saver for us.

New here. Really great work!

Just how handy is a Loader Cub?
1 Attachment(s)
I needed to load a transmission rear end assy from a F-20 Farmall on a trailer. Went to the barn to get out the Farmall M with a loader. Flat tire so that was out. I then decided to see if the loader cub could pick it up. No problem. The loader cub is probably the handiest cub I have. It gets used almost daily by the wife or I for chores around the house and shop.

Nice job. Currently I am in the process of copying you as your conversion is serving as a perfect “how to” guide. I will end up
painting mine red. It s an 1882. Will finish in IH Red/white/black. Thanks again for the info and inspiration. I’ll post a new thread as I make progress this weekend. |

Really like the light bar idea, for head light.

This is by far the best looking Cyclops Cub I've ever seen. Very cool project and end result.
