123 hydro linkage tightening?

My 123 has a problem, the speed lever just takes off to full speed, and there’s little to no resistance when moving it. How do I snug that up? I can’t find anything in the manual about it, and I don’t see anything obvious when looking at it.

Well I pulled the battery and maybe I found it?

If that’s the nut how in the world do I get to it? Remove the steering column?

that's the adjustment . I have a short wrench that I use put it on the nut and turn the lever to tighten

Thanks Dale. I managed to wedge my channel locks in there and get enough of it to turn the handle and move the nut. After about 20 tries, and one shaved knuckle, I got it tightened up.

A crows foot wrench work well for that. I made my own out of a piece or flat stock.

Thanks. I got it snugged. The spring is pretty much compressed completely to get it stiff enough to stay in place. Is it not a very strong spring or maybe the spring has lost its spring?

So tell me, how easy should it be to move the lever? I feel as though mine is quite tight. Takes a fist around the lever and concentration to make sure it goes where I want it to.

Sounds a little too tight if you have to really crank on it. It should be just tight enough to not creep on it's own. Mine would just shoot right up to full speed. Made it difficult for plowing garden... :biggrin2:

jzidle 04-04-2019 05:14 PM

Ha, yes. Plowing the garden at 8mph sounds very challenging but very video worthy.

finsruskw 04-04-2019 05:17 PM

Ya want to see video worthy??!!
Try loading a Case 130, with a hydraulic transmission, on a short tilt bed trailer sometime!!!

My problem is not fixed. It’s pretty tight but still “takes off”. What gives. :bigthink:

Check to be sure your trunnion is not worn, missing springs ect ect...

sorner 04-05-2019 09:48 AM

The trunion is in good shape. This is the pump I swapped a ported pump into from a low hour 1862. I changed over the plate from the old pump to hook up for the 123 linkage.

The issue is the tractor when under a load pushes the lever up to max speed. Just driving around the yard does not do it since adjusting the tension but it does it when I'm making it work, last night I was running my cultivator to level out my garden.

This would only be a guess from me, but may maybe you've got a lot of crap down there in that friction washer stuff that is not letting it hold, or maybe broken spring. Taking it apart to check, undoubtedly not fun, but????

sorner 04-05-2019 11:12 AM

I was thinking the spring might be an issue, based on how much it compressed down (Post #6). I don't even want to think about replacing that. I parted out the other 123 and no longer have that piece, and it was a SOB to get apart just to get that out.

darkminion_17 04-05-2019 12:19 PM

Looks like fun to me!
You may have to do one of those PO modes it see, adding some springs to the go go arm.
