Collecting all the number models

Just curious, anybody on here set out to collect one (at least) each of all the number series of Cub Cadets? Which ones would be the hardest to find
if I wanted to stop at say, 1979 production?
Just thinking.:bigthink:

Depends on how far in the weeds you want to go. Rear engine riders and lawn tractors?

800 and 169 were lowest production models. Spirit of 76 lawn tractors are pretty rare. The 95 electric is pretty rare too.

The run of the mill machines aren’t hard to come by though. Gear drives slightly more rare than hydros it seems. I’m guessing you could do it in a few years of serious looking.

Just a reference - MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently.

If you accumulated all those tractors and quit in '79, you'd be missing out on the red ones, just saying.

Red ones came out in fall of 79, with the exception of the 1282 and 782d which were CCC creations.

How big a shed do you have?
Farmall-Land in Avoca IA has a good start.
On much more than just the Cub Cadets I might add.
A must see when you are on I-80 in western Iowa
Exit 40 on I-80

Super cool place to visit.

He has almost all of them, including some super rare ones like the 111.

A lot of super clean nice tractors. Not quite heritage restorations for most of them, but really nice looking machines.

I've seen some nice collections. I bet there are a few folks on this forum that have extensive collections too. I would love to have a collection of 82 series. One can dream... :beer2:

Too bad you missed the 2017 RPRU at Des Moines.
There was a full display of all the red models right in the main entrance.

Gompers:

Lyle only has the Red ones.

Former Member (now deceased) Myron Bounds came close to having every yellow & white model.

That's sad to hear :(

But I think it's possible! Just GTs shouldn't be that horribly bad to do. Up through the quietlines it's 32 models by my count.
5 7HP gear drives (O,70,71,72,83)
2 8HP Gear drives (86,800)
6 10HP gear drives (100,102,104,106,108,1000)
3 10HP hydros (105,107,109)
1 11HP gear drive (1100)
5 12HP gear drives (122,124,126,128,1200)
5 12HP Hydros (123,125,127,129,1250)
3 14HP hydros (147,149,1450)
2 16HP hydros (169,1650)

Then you get into the red ones and the IH built GTs would add 6 more models (482, 582 special, 582, 682, 782, 982).

Once you hit MTD land, things really grow quickly and there are double numbers for certain models (782d/882, 680/1282 etc) and the numbers change for features vs whole different tractors, and it gets to be a big mess.

Are you actively looking for them and if so, how badly?

I see 482s and 982s fairly often. Not so many 582 specials, but I think I've seen a couple for sale this year.

Would you be willing to travel to the NC, TN, VA area to get one if I find one?

darkminion_17 01-16-2019 06:52 PM

Thanks for the offer, I am sure I will find one closer.

Maybe there will be a 4, 5s, or 9 eighty two at Jacktown this weekend. You going, weather permitting?

darkminion_17 01-16-2019 08:17 PM

I will see, I have to look at the forecast.

482 is one I have never seen around here. Actually been a couple 582 Specials to show up on CL in the last few years.
