Mower Deck Removal on 100

Was wondering if anyone had any tips for removing the 38" mower deck on my 100. Note that this is all new to me. As I look at the deck it appears to be attached to white sub frame under the tractor. How much of this needs to be removed and is this a one man job? Also how big a deal is it to re install? Just seems like it would be easier to work on with the deck out of the way. Thanks

Check the tech section under implements and a manual should be there.

Not sure why some of them came out sideways. Sorry

The Owner's Manuals are in Technical Library Section as mentioned before. See Link...... Pin on Decks

Lower the deck to the ground, pull out the back two spring loaded pins and the deck will just roll forward and off the front lift arms there. Get the belt off the pulley, raise the lift and slide it out from under the tractor.

Easy one man job.

Installation is opposite of removal.

I'm staring at this 100 and for the life of me I cannot see how to remove the belt from over the front pulley without removing the whole front end...am I missing something?

You need to loosen up the adjuster on the PTO disengagement lever with the PTO engaged and slide it out between that and the PTO.

edit: Engine off, obviously

Thank you for that bit of info.

Good morning. So I have removed the mower deck on the 100, but as far as the belt goes, there is not enough room between the pully and the pto lever to remove the belt. Any suggestions?

You may have to loosen up the turnbuckle PTO adjustment to get enough room between the lever and the pulley

35boulder 12-19-2018 09:54 AM

I've done that, but the lever will not go any further away from the pully before it hits the front of the tractor. ?

athomas 12-19-2018 10:20 AM

Not sure about your model, maybe the grill needs to come out ? But any narrow frame tractors I've had once the pto turnbuckle is undone the lever that engages the pto will go forward quite a bit allowing the belt to come off and slide down between the pulley and lever ? post some pics as to what it looks like .

So let me put this out there...if I just cut the belt, are there replacement belts out there for down the road?

athomas 12-19-2018 10:58 AM

Yes, but if you can't get the old one off, then are you planning on cutting the new one to put it on ? They don't make a 2 pc belt with a splice. There has to be a simple solution to your problem I would think ?

35boulder 12-19-2018 11:03 AM

No I get that, but I don't plan on using the mower any time soon. Can't really get to the tractor under side with mower on. I'm trying to get pics to load before I cut. I'm guessing that mower deck had 25-30 lbs of dirt caked under it!

Does anyone know the width this belt is supposed to be? I'm measuring 0.45in w caliper.

ironman 12-19-2018 11:44 AM

Is anyone else out there biting their tongue or is it just me?

I bit my tongue at dinner last night. I hate that! :bash2:

Had to take my dentures out, ruined the rest of the meal.

it's a 3/8" belt. You need to be able to get it off without cutting it though so you can get the new one on without cutting it.

You can pull the grille screen out if you don't have enough clearance. You should have enough clearance though. I haven't messed around too much with 100s, but the "push the PTO forward to get enough clearance" is the way you get the belt onto the PTO on manual PTO clutch Cub Cadets.

Billy-O 12-19-2018 12:43 PM

It looks like the front grill is bent inwards a little bit. As it was said before, you can pop the grill out to make room. Or, just use a little muscle and push the grill forward just enough to make room to remove the belt.

darkminion_17 12-19-2018 02:07 PM

Okay, here is the secret, remove the hood, then loosen the four bolts holding the grill housing and then tip the grill housing away, forward.

Works for me.

35boulder 12-19-2018 03:33 PM

Thanks to those who offered suggestions.

cooperino 12-19-2018 08:27 PM

Is the lever just hitting the grill? Will it open further with grill removed?
Edit. Just saw Darkminion suggested this
