Looks pretty sharp! I really like the red! What else did you do besides paint? Engine rebuild? New parts?

bigblueyoung 11-02-2018 06:40 PM

paint, rebuilt carb, relined brake pads, tune up items, changed hytran fluid and filter, head gasket, led headlights and taillights, rebuilt steering box, replaced front axle pivot pin. theres prob more but can't remember at the moment

Now I just gotta b able to afford some new rubber for her. Wanting to build a chassis and use the deck as a finish mower instead of a belly mower to make it easier to change attachments. Also have to build a lift for the back. Not gonna pay what people are getting from them. By the way, never really has had any problem starting, but it seems like the generator/starter turns really slow. Batter is good. All connections are good. Do I just need to rebuild the generator?

You did mention all connections are good. However, a lot of times there's poor grounding because of fresh paint.

Most of the time new brgs, brushes and a good cleaning go a long way in making the starter work better. Clean up the surface where the brushes ride with some scotch brite or fine emery cloth don't remove too much material and be sure to clean the grooves out ! I generally use a hacksaw blade to scrape the grooves free of old brush material. Again don't over do it on the grooves ,when there clean they are only slightly lower than the surface the brushes ride on maybe like a 32nd deep. there's a seller on ebay goes by (s-and-d-repair) out of ohio that sells rebuild kits, brg type or sleeve type depending on what you have for about 13.00 bucks as well as some of the vendors on this site likely have also . good luck ! The other possibility of a slow cranking engine could be the ACR not working right !

bigblueyoung 11-03-2018 08:44 PM

oh, yeah, about half the wiring I replaced as it was in pretty crummy shape. every connection on it has either been cleaned with a dremel and wire wheel, or the connection replaced.

A red wide frame?? Of course! Looks great!!

bigblueyoung 11-04-2018 09:47 AM

Ill have to check out that kit on ebay as soon as I get a chance. Thanks! And sorry for the ignorance, but what is the ACR? I should prob know this.

IHinIN 11-04-2018 10:07 AM

Looks great.

The ACR is the Automatic Compression Release. It holds the exhaust valve slightly open during startup to ease the load on the starter.

Your tractor came out nice and shiny.

bigblueyoung 11-04-2018 07:39 PM

Thanks everybody for the compliments! She's not perfect, but she's good enough for me. ACR, gonna have to read up on that.

athomas 11-04-2018 09:11 PM

Section 9 in the kohler service man. in the tech section covers the ACR, usually trouble free but I've had problems with at least one not working properly, tractor looks great !:beerchug:
