I’ll be honest and admit that I’ve been lurking way to long. To many projects and not enough time, put getting a ih cub cadet on the back burner. I’m a locomotive engineer by night and day, and in my free time I will be posting here mingling with you fine folks. But alas, the time has come and im tired of driving around my plastic Deere cutting grass, so I nabbed a 123. It’s been run hard, but maintained relatively decent. Has had a re power in the 80’s. (Still a K301, just black instead of yellow) Oils clean, filter regularly changed along with fluid in the rear end. Previous owner seemed to tell me everything I wanted to know about how it’s been cared for, So I purchased it. It has a few options but not the cigarette lighter, Just lights front and rear (Grote). 42” deck that’s not rusted out.

Anyway, everyone wants pictures. So here is a few. It’s nothing glorious, but it’s what I’m working with. The hydrostatic transmission lured me in, Plus the colors.

Welcome Justin,

Your tractor looks to be in great shape already. What all are you planning to do to it?

First few things is mechanically make it sound and used as a weekly mower, Then start making it astheticaly appealing to the eye. Today I cleaned the carb and tank, new points, condenser, fuel bowl, air filter and plug. Points were pretty thin. And not responding to gapping like a new set. Unsure on if I’ll completely go through the engine, but I will check out the head gasket and compression.

Im also going to be looking at a wiring harness before I paint anything. The mower deck scares me a little bit, but hoping the spindles are as good as they appear. Obviously that seat is a eyesore, but there plenty of shops local that can take care of that for me.

It needs the front rims replaced. Unsure on what size Yet. (Skinny or wide) They are wore out, looks like someone put a beating on them to get them unstuck. Rolling down the road it’s all over the place, so the steering will be addressed as well. Hoping it’s just a few wore out parts.

I feel it’s a worthy adventure and what I put into it, I will get out of it. It will be used. It won’t be a show tractor. I tend to take care of my stuff pretty meticulously, this could get out of hand. But my wife will hold me back.

Hello Squeek, check out Miller Tire. I think new narrow rims with bearings can be had for about $25 each. Mike:beerchug:

Welcome!! Glad you decided to join in. Your 123 looks good, mine is one of my favorites.
I have a friend who drives for UP. I never know when he’s going to show up to talk, pretty messed up schedule

The schedule is less than desired. But it’s the ebb and flow of the business. They call, we answer. I don’t even remember what a holiday or weekend is anymore.
