1864 engine

froze up. are they worth trying overhaul or buy a new kolher command. is there a retrofit engine for these cadets or stay with a kohler

cooperino 06-03-2018 08:51 AM

I think you can get pretty much any internal part in that engine. Couple questions. Do you have any exp rebuilding engines? Is the engine locked up from sitting or did it lock up from low oil condition? Either reason it locked up it may be beyond rebuilding but only way to determine that is to open it up and have a look. If I looked up the correct engine I saw complete engine for $999
Short block for around $500, and partial rebuild kits for 300$..

Where did you find that info?

Tractor data showed a 18HP twin 624CC.
Heres the one for 999$

The other rebuild kits on different sites but these were guesstimates without know his exact model number

Thanks...but that engine will not work. The crankshaft is for an UTV because it is tapered. Also other mods will be needed to make it work.

It is always nice to have additional sources for engines. :beerchug:

This engine may work....but it is pricey!

Just curious...

Is this the correct shaft? 400 bucks extra for non tapered?

Yup...$400 additional for the correct shaft. However, this may not be a direct install due to the driveshaft mounting. The length of the shaft may be incorrect(not sure) and this engine will need to be adapted for the throttle and choke controls. Specific engines are expensive.
But as you mentioned in a previous post...take the stuck engine apart and evaluate what is needed to determine whether replacement is necessary.

Well, if it is the right one... at least Northern tool is a bit cheaper.

We buy CH740-3117's like they are going out of style lol.. Theres a company that builds walk behind belt loaders that have this engine. End users tend to blow em up quite frequently. Under powered for what its doing is my guess. Company has since started installing kubota diesels

That is set up to be a stationary motor. It can be converted, but not a drop in.

This is why I keep jumping on you cooperino. You talk and talk and post and post, but you just don't know the specifics enough to give accurate information. Either take the time to go to Cub Cadet (not tractor data) and look up the parts, then find an appropriate replacement that works, or just quit giving out info!!! Good thing Beth was paying attention.

To the OP:
Are you sure the PTO isn't locked up?

OH YEAH! good thing! .. if you look at my post. I stated. If I looked up the correct engine I saw complete engine for $999.. I never said I knew this for fact. The post seemed to be more about can it be rebuilt than can it be replaced. At which time I asked the appropriate questions. DID I NOT???
NO WHERE did i tell the OP BUY THIS ENGINE AND IT WILL WORK.. It is up to the OP to look at his engine serial number and get the correct engine.

Yes, or starter bendix jammed in the out position, or have seen Mickey the mouse nests jammed in the blower housing too

No, because it is correct.
I'm only trying to make sure correct info is given. If you are correct, you will get no response, or I will agree. If it's wrong and I catch it, it will be corrected. Just look up the info if you aren't sure and there is no issue.

hopefully I get it apart later this week to see whats going on. will also get the model and spec. numbers. it locked up will mowing and was full of oil. went into a hard labor and then just quit. I have been in a lot of motors for repair but never a kohler command

Leadslingingdaddy 06-04-2018 06:42 AM

That Kohler Command is a pretty stout engine and if it doesn't have a hole in it they are worth rebuilding... If it is a basket case inside, look for a 2/3000 series cub... 2185 etc. and repower with one of those....You can pick them up sometimes real cheap off of CL..

mrfred54 06-06-2018 08:02 AM

got engine out yesterday and found bad news. blew a rod and when it came apart it broke the camchaft. so I guess it junk. maybe i'll look for a short block or maybe a good used motor. kohler command model CH18S... spec. 62509... ser.# 2632419527. any leads on where I can find one????

bllwnkl 06-06-2018 10:20 AM

Ouch! Sorry about the bad news. :crap:

Leadslingingdaddy 06-06-2018 11:42 AM

3 posts up.........

If it is a basket case inside, look for a 2/3000 series cub... 2185 etc.
