New Rear tires for 105
 

I'm looking for new rear tires on my 105. Currently the tires on there look like some kind of turf tires and are pretty old and cracked, I'm thinking they must have tubes or else they'd be losing air.

My current biggest issue is they have terrible traction. I'm guessing with how old they are, the rubber is just very hard, which causes the traction issues.

Do these tires on Amazon seem good? Current tires on there say 23x8.5-12, so I think these should fit.

Main use is mowing the lawn and pulling a little trailer around the yard.

Off brand tires don't seem to last like a set from a quality brand, they always seem to dry crack much faster and they are usually smaller in size compared to a name brand. If I were you I'd spend a little more and get some of these Carlisle's.

Whats your terrain like? If you are in eastern NC and flat as a pancake most anything will do. From the Piedmont back west I suggest something a little on the aggressive side. That said, we have a 66 Deere 110 with original tires and I remember it spinning like crazy when I was a kid, of course me only weighing 75 lbs at the time didn't help either. Running a 128 Cadet with ordinary old Carlisle turf tread and it does a really good job except ditch banks--then I just shift my weight to the high side. Got an 1811 with ags--that thing will go anywhere. It bites the ground so good I think it would roll over before it even thought about sliding. Heck it has so much traction you don't move the hydro lever real fast or the front end will pop up.

If I remember correctly your mower doesn't have wide and stout fenders so shifting your weight isn't really an option on hillsides.

I'm in the Piedmont area. My back yard is fairly slopped. Not that bad, but if I stop on the hill I generally can't get going again and if I'm towing anything, I need to get moving at a pretty decent speed to get up it.

Would ags be bad for the lawn? My primary purpose for this is mowing the lawn, so I wouldn't want to get any tires that would be too hard on that.

Ags do fine on turf. That's all I use. Get lug tires and be happy. Turf tires suck anyway.

I just acquired a machine with lugs last year and it is remarkable how well they perform. An no, I haven't seen any damage to the lawn,, they love this red clay and rocks! Sorry for the poor pic, I rarely take "good" shots of the machines once they are running/operational.

I mow with AG tires and don't have an issue with them damaging the yard. They actually do less damaged than the turfs because they don't spin and tear up the grass.

I just got finished mowing with the 782D with ags. The ground is really really soft because it has rained about 2 inches since Friday. There was no damage to the yard . In spots I can see where the paddles have made an impression but I doubt it's any different then what would happen with turfs and the marks will be gone by tomorrow.

IMO agreed. Turfs make more damage because they are bald and spin easier.

Yea but, if the AG tire is not there in physical respect to be able to tear up a yard, then that's a problem, :biggrin2:

Ag tires work just fine on the lawn... like others said no damage... We found over the years all of them will spin with no weight... I would suggest whatever you do wind up using I would at least load them with fluid and probably add a set of weights.. you would be amazed what adding fluid will do even for your old tires.. traction is night and day difference:beerchug::beerchug:

Sounds like I will go with ag tires. I'm not familiar with any brands, but sounds like Carlisle is a good brand from what people have been posting?

What are most people doing for wheel weights? Is there a website I could buy them or is used the best option? Would any new ones fit my tractor?

Wheel weights... haunt Craigslist and or Zuckerbook Marketplace since you too are in NC. They're out there in this neck of the woods. Look at "cub cadet wheel weights" or "cub wheel weights" since I believe the rears on the Cadets are the fronts of many Cub tractors.

Be careful of buying another Cub to harvest the WW from, as you may find yourself with yet another project Cub rather than a WW source!
