IH Cub 147
4 Attachment(s)
Just picked up my first IH cub cadet. Model 147. Let the work begin.
|
Nice find and you gotta love that big P.O. mod on the lift handle.
Did it come with any extra parts? |
2 belts for the drive train
|
Congrats on your first one! Good luck with making it your own!:beerchug:

Question, what is this and how should it be mounted?
|
Also, where can I get a starter/generator from?
|
That's a voltage regulator. Sorta important to making the engine run. It's where it's supposed to be, but it's should be mounted more square with the rest of the frame.
There is potential under there; what was the person thinking with the fenders....:bash2::bash: |

Thanks for the info!
|
You may not need a S/G if the issue is it isn't charging. That is not the correct v-reg. Probably why it isn't mounted right.
Have the old S/G rebuilt. No need to buy another unless the one you have isn't fixable. That tractor doesn't have drivetrain belts. Do you mean deck drive belts? |
Ok. Thanks for the info. Yes you are correct, the belts are for the lawn deck.
|
I am need of a proper voltage regular and how it is mounted. Pictures is a plus.
|
It mounts on the bracket that the wrong one is mounted to.... only it fits.
Here is the parts book. If you don't like CCC's price, a local auto part store can get you a replacement. You can use this site to look up your own part numbers. Go to the line marked "assembly" and click the drop down menu to look at different assembly groups. Bookmark the page so you can find it. http://www.cubcadet.com/equipment/AR...0-A/0024900006 While you are at it, download the chassis and engine manuals from the tech section on this site. They should answer most of your repair questions. If not, then feel free to ask. If you can't find the manuals, say so and we can point you to them. |
Thanks Jonathon.

Here's the only pic I could find of my 147's VR before teardown (plus a couple others I found on the interwebs). The correct one should mount with the hardware in the vertical, on that angled bracket. Don't fool around with this mounting, and make sure to secure it top and bottom. In a careless moment I test drove my tractor with just one of the VR bolts in. Vibration caused it to swing down, ground out and almost instantly set the wiring harness on fire.

I was thinking that but, wasn’t sure. Thanks for your help.
Also, I was wanting to replace my carburetor. Would you recommend this: https://www.ebay.com/p/Kohler-K321-a...d=231245760397 |
Rebuild the old one. Unless the throttle shaft bore is shot, I'd rebuild it.
|
How would I know if the throttle shaft bore is shot? I am assuming it is not.
|
|
Wow! What you can find on YouTube! Thanks Steve!
I'll have to check my carb after a good cleaning of the motor. Also, can I go to my local auto parts store and get the rebuild parts? Do I say its for a K321 motor? |

My project stalled out due to life, but I plan to resume this spring. |

Thanks again for your help. Didn’t see any cross reference number for the carburetor rebuild kit.
But, that will help me for my regulator and coil/condenser. |
I buy my carb kits from Amazon. They get here in 2 days and are very reasonably priced.

Nice 147. Amazon is where I get all my parts from as well. Carb kits, sediment bowls, petcocks, whatever they have it, two day free shipping w the prime account is unbeatable. I ordered some PAR36 bulbs last Friday and they showed up the next day
|
Cool. Thanks guys!
|
I just ordered this. Probably not Kohler original but how can you beat the price?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/2-CARBURETO...53.m1438.l2649 |
I can't beat the price, but match it. My local O'Reilly's sells them to me for that same price. No shipping... and they deliver to me. :biggrin2:
Prime Line part number: 7-02024 EDIT: Nevermind.... there are two kits that for price. Nope. Can't beat that!!! Great deal! |

Just pressure washed it. Next, rims sandblasted and powder coated while engine electrical parts come in.

Why is my picture upside down when I post, or sideways?
