QA42A pulley
I just scored a nice, tight QA42A on the cheap and i want to put it on the 782 or the 1211. I already know i need different upper bars and a pulley but i don't know what diameter pulley i need? I tried looking it up but i must be stupid and can't find anything.

Does it have a pulley on it now? If so, what size is the PTO on those engines?
I can check the pulley diameter on my 125 and QA42 tomorrow |
Item 4 in the diagram below is what you seek. Part number is IH-78055-C2 and is still available. I don't see a diameter listed anywhere, but with the part number maybe you can do some cross referencing.

Pulley is the same size, but the width is different.
|
Tim-Outside diameter on the pulley is 4 1/2".

Thank you all for the information, now I can begin the search.

Cast iron browning BK50 ---4.75 on outside diameter.
www.Surplus center lists it for about $14.00, if you want to speed it up, go 1 tooth bigger on the drive sprocket :beerchug: |
I'm far from a pulley expert but i found this and i think it would work. It's a 1/4" smaller so it should speed the thrower up just a bit, Opinions?

Think that will work, and speed it up a tad.:beerchug:

I'm running a 3.55" pulley from McMaster Carr on my QA42A/782 combo, with a napa belt. Works good.

QA 42 Snow Blower Pulley Size
The original pulley on my QA42 was 4 -1/2" in diameter, and used only a 3/8" wide belt. The problem I had with my 1650 with a QA42 snow blower in wet, heavy snow was the drive belt was the fuse for the snow blower. I could fail the belt long before using all of the available engine power under a continuous load, even with a new belt and it properly tensioned. I went to a local farm supply store (Farm & Fleet around here) to source a 1/2" wide belt and 4-1/2" pulley for the snow blower gear box. Although doing so, resulted in needing a Gates A30 belt, that combination eliminated my drive issues. The pulley I used was a taper fit type with two bolts to clamp the pulley to the tapered sleeve for the snow blower gearbox shaft diameter. I will also mention to spent some time confirming the pulleys are in alignment before tightening the pulley to the shaft sleeve.
Hope this helps. |
