Sorry Tim, I was told to avoid north Georgia, southeastern TN and southwestern SC. They say traffic is going to be crazy. You should have a good view so let us know.

I will be able to see it good enough from Indiana PA.

I've got friends in Lincoln Ne. That's where I'm headed.
Saw the last one in '79. Was pretty cool.:beerchug:
Hope the weather holds out.

I'm staying in Galax should be pretty good here.

Tim.E 08-18-2017 07:07 PM

Authorities estimate 50,000 people could come to our little town of 6000.Should be quite interesting to see.:bigthink:
I anticipate gridlock on highway 68 and highway 11 and possibly I-75 from Chattanooga to Knoxville.
I have to go to work that day,but I can walk if need be.:bash2:

Tim.E 08-18-2017 07:08 PM

All that for 2 minutes and 37 seconds of darkness.:bash2:

We have people coming from Japan to our area. In Japan It is believed that if a baby is conceived during a total eclipse that that baby will be superhuman. So you can about imagine what they're going to be doing during the two minutes of Darkness

But what will they do with the other minute and a half?:biggrin2:

Since the sun will be behind the moon do you guys think I need to turn the flash on to get a good pic?:biggrin2:

The eclipse apex-ed through here in Mid Michigan at 2:24EDT at 81%. Been a long time since I have seen one like this (~1970). Impressive to say the least.

Was peaked here at 1:05central time. Pretty cool. I spent most of the morning testing different welding lenses. A number 11 with a dark pair of sunglasses was best. I had the paper glasses too.

I was a little bummed that my auto darkening helmet wouldn't darken once it got to a certain point, I was able to see it up until about 3/4 covered.

The cloud cover acted as a filter,,, letting my phone capture this pic,,,

Most have a sensitivity adjustment. Your's doesn't?

darkminion_17 08-21-2017 08:49 PM

I put a #5 + #10 and it was perfect.
A #10 green alone was too bright.:beerchug:

J-Mech 08-21-2017 09:37 PM

I think the helmet I used was a #10 or #12. I wore my sunglasses too, and I thought it was about right. I had a darker helmet I left for my wife to use.

As a note, during the next eclipse in 2024, my town will be in the area of totality. Pretty cool!
