Too much or just right?

Those of you following my 100 resto thread, have no doubt seen the brass steering cap. You may have also noticed the tractor doesn't have a shift knob on it. I'm having a hard time deciding if I want to order an original shifter knob or have my buddy make a custom one out of the brass he has left from the cap. On one hand, I think the brass knob would be a nice addition and set off the cap nicely. On the other hand, I think it might be a bit over the top. Opinions?

Might be pushing it a bit. You would be only a step away from a chrome skull head with glowing red eyes.
Have him make one out of black Delrin.

It's a personal choice thing but the steering cap looks cool. If it's going to be for show and you like the looks, go for it.

Steering wheel cap is a great way to add detail. Plus, it's similar to what IH offered on other things. Shift knob, I'd go original.

Nahh....
Ya need a PBR tap handle!!

CubDieselFan 05-19-2017 10:45 AM

I think it would match the steering wheel nicely.

Check with your grandad. Might be nice project to work on together. He may have something or just want it original.

Go with the rubber one, brass may be nice but you would have to glue it on or use a set screw.

The plan was a set screw on the bottom so it couldn't be seen. I think I'm leaning towards having him make it and then if I decide it's to much I could powder coat it in black.

I think it would look good. You could always sell it if you dont like it, or put it on a shelf

OG shifter knob of IHC design IMO. (make it through all of those acronyms? LOL)

Billy-O 05-19-2017 08:11 PM

Black knob with brass shift pattern inlay

I think the brass shift knob would be a little much, however beauty is in the eye of the beholder. As you stated if you don't like it, you could always have it powdercoated, or sell it.

Throw the O E style on it.:bigthink:
You know how sometimes a little is enough.:beerchug:

Use an 8 ball.

drcjv 05-20-2017 07:35 AM

Tim I would go with a pistol grip but if you do the brass you could get yourself a grill for your teeth to complete the look.:biggrin2::biggrin2:

I like the pistol grip. I did one with an old Hurst T handle i drilled to go on vertically. I also have that skull head with red eyes as a wheel spinner, clamped on something that sticks out to protect my leg when walking around it. I resemble that remark. Mike:biggrin2:

Man, tough crowd. I guess I shouldn't even ask about wire wheels I wanted to put on it.:biggrin2:
