Back in the game with my 147!!

Hey all! It has been a while as I sold my Last cub, 1450, about two years ago. I've kept up on the forums as I could but just had lost the itch for a cubbie of my own. Then, whilst cruising Craigslist one night I came across this. A 1971 cc 147, original owner, all service records from the local IH dealer/shop, original service/owners manual, tire chains, nice snow blade, good smooth quiet deck with only one hole needs patched in, and about 95% original. Even better, the owner had meticulously cared for her since she left the showroom floor. The 147 is definitely a worker, shows signs of use, but good use! The only thing I'm nervous about is the electric lift, however, this one seems to be going strong. Mowed with her immediately upon returning home today, and it did a great job. Here are a couple of pics right after we put her to work on her new patch of ground. Any suggestions or things to look out for would be much appreciated, otherwise, I'm gonna put her to work this summer and then do a tear down this winter to, hopefully just give her a new coat of paint and make her work/show worthy for next year. :beerchug:

Nice find. Narrow frames have a good look.

That's one nice original 147! If I remember right the electric lift better the motor and the cylinder takes grease and check the brushes on the motor.

Nice machine! I've heard the e-lift works a little better if you add a spring assist. I'd like to say I could tell you from experience, but I haven't got that part of my 147 working yet. Welcome back to the owners club!

Congrats on the 147.:beerchug:
You're thinking of painting it. Man, that tractor looks great in it's work clothes, only original once. But it's your tractor, do what you got to do.:beerchug:

Since that looks a LOT like my 123, I think that is the most beautiful Cub ever!

(Well.... saw a diesel Cub in an earlier post.... I could learn to like that one, too...)

Great looking 147. Congrats! :beerchug:

Great looking 147, I wouldn't repaint it.

Was that the one that was at the Paxton IL Community auction about 3 weeks ago? The one there was very clean, had the electric lift and the manual, started right up and brought the most money of all of the machines there, despite being the oldest tractor there....but is definitely worth more than aabout any newer Husq or Yard man.... which was the "competition" that day.

Nice 147! it's probably more show-worthy in its original clothes, there are not a huge number of unmolested ones left out there!

Alvy 04-23-2017 08:41 AM

Yeah wow that is a nice example of an original 147. My vote is to keep it as is too. But it's your tractor now so you can do as you please, either way, very nice and thanks for sharing.

Fantastic looking machine! Do what you wish, but I look the looks of it as is, especially if it is going to be a worker. If it were mine I'd just turn wrenches where required and cut some grass.:beerchug: You may find things like the steering and hydro controls a little worn after all this time. Is that box of parts I saw in the pics? Looks like spare blades maybe.:bigthink:

CCNoob13 04-23-2017 11:02 AM

That's why I love the community on here! No paint for her it is! This wasn't at the auction, the only time it left the gentlemans garage was to mow the yard or push some snow! It did come with a spare box of parts and factory paint cans along with the manual and sales receipts. I'll try and get some vids of her running. I think the best part has been how excited my son is sitting on his "new" tractor!! I like the spring assist idea. All I have to do is try and find one! Thanks for the responses guys and glad to be back!:IH Trusted Hand:

I think it looks GREAT as it is. Beautifully original

ACecil 04-23-2017 11:49 AM

Nice score on the 147!

drglinski 04-23-2017 08:37 PM

Nice 147. Awesome machine. Love mine. IMO it looks great as is as well....clean it up and wax it good and she might look just as good as new.

Userj8670 04-23-2017 09:24 PM

That's a sharp looking machine! Definitely well cared for and you don't see them with the OEM seats to often- great score!

Peoria area. Just about dead in the middle between St Louis and Chicago.

Sweet original 147! Glad we talked you out of painting it.:biggrin2::beerchug:
