108 new addition
Well i bought a 108, when i looked at it i thought it was pretty beat down. After getting her in the shop I discovered it was in really good condition, so I decided to keep it. Not sure what we are going to do with it right now.
Thinking of putting my rebuilt 14hp in it. Also got a great power washer in the deal. |
Forgot to mention I had to travel 500' to get it lol awsome deal.
If I install the 14hp wounder if I should put 148 decals? |
Omg the PO used what looks like a 30w oil in the rear-end.
Cleaned it out with diesel found some shavings, Think it's ok?... put new Hytran back in. Amazed how she runs. Paid $275 for the cub and Power washer. |
That's a sweet 108 Keith. I've often thought about making the tractor they never built, either a 148 or a 168. Not sure why they didn't but they should have. Yours looks very good and original paint? Looks just like one of mine, thinking it has the old good year ags?
Those little Honda pws are decent and new are about what you paid for the tractor. PS how great is it that you got a pw and a cub. It's the first thing most of us do when we get one, clean off the 40 years of grime! |
I think those metal shavings are abby normal. You need to see what the condition of the gears under the shifter cover look like.
You have to find your tractors a little closer though. |

Like the tow truck! :beerchug: |
That 108 is in great condition, other than the steel shavings. I think someone ground the gears and that is a result......perhaps she needs clutch work or has had some clutch work after the problem persisted a while. Nonetheless, its a good looking cub and a gear drive 14 hp would be a real powerhouse!! With a 14 hp engine, I am sure a lot of pullers would like to score it from you Nice find Keith!

Really like that 148, sawdustdad. |
Ok , probably a dumb question, but I have a new wiring harness for a 147, would it work or be close to the 108 harness?
|
No,regulater is under the seat on 108.
|
Well, looks good Keith!! I wondered what you had been up to. I talk to Trent all the time, but hadn't seen or heard from you lately!
A 148 is a cool deal. I'd do it, if nothing else, just for fun!! Tans shavings are normal, like Lew said. No worries. Quote:

Man, I had a good k341 out of a model 169 I had big plans to stuff in my model 86, but sold the engine to a guy who needed that engine for his model 169!
Yup, throw in that 14hp! |
Boys, I really had to twist his arm to keep this 1! But deep down he really wanted to keep it. :biggrin2:
It is very clean, straight, and in its original condition. The 14 h.p. would truly be a complement to the machine. But that 10 horse single banger runs like a sewing machine. Seriously impressed. Hopefully it has hydraulics in its future!:beer2: |
Good looking 108!
|
Ok Now for SOME IDEAS...... Let's hear them, I.E. Color, decals, wheels, additions.... We want to add Hydraulics, PS, a front and rear set of ports, thinking of a Stack since the exhaust is kinda messed up, Lights Square LED up front and I have new tail lights from the 147.
So what ya think?:bigthink::biggrin2: |

I seem to like customs with the frame being painted gloss black.
|
Purchased some new parts for the 108 today. All new clutch, just need make a new drive shaft and get the plates turned down. Once they all come in I can get the 14hp put in and start using her.

How about a 168 |
Just a taste.......
|
Took a little work but saved the tag, came out great.
|
Everything looks clean and great....except I am not a fan of the red and gold on the engine, but different strokes for different folks!! Glad you are making great progress on your tractor. I must say it seems to be getting done exponentially now.

Very colorful on the engine, what color is the seat gonna be?
|
I started the engine for my 147 that was going to be a IH Gold Demonstrator hence the.color. when I got this 108 we decided to use the 14hp in it, but I put a lot of work in to the engine and didn't relay want to tear it down and repaint it.
|
Motors in the Gold Demo tractors were normal color. Only the hood and fenders were gold....
Just sayin. :biggrin2: |
I know but the plain red seemed well just plain,,:biggrin2:
|
So i guess this means it's going to be a little longer before the 108 is ready. Seems my engine paint job dosent match the rest of the cub lol. So I'm pulling it and painting it again.

Do over
Never time (or energy) to do it right. But, always time (and extra energy) to do it over. :bash2: :biggrin2:
|
It was done right, for what it was going to be used for in the first place.
|
You don't have to repaint your engine on our account. Heck, it's your tractor and you can paint it pink for that matter. I did not mean to be critical, so my apology if that is the way I came across. I just said I didn't dig the colors you selected. That's a lot of time and you did do a nice job painting it up. Who am I to blow against the wind?

repaint
And I for sure was/am not being critical. Just having a bit of fun. I'm a "do it my way" guy, and applaud folks making the manufactured products, custom for the user. Don't believe it? Look at the custom combination hitch on the 782, in my avatar. Keep up the good work. These old tractors deserve it.
|
I LIKE the paint job. It was well done and you aren't trying to fool anyone by saying its original. If it were mine I'd focus on turning wrenches and not a paint gun. But that's just me.:beerchug:
|
Actuality after some thought I'm just going to leave it for now. I could relay care less what color the engine is, I just want it running.
|
Before & After pick of my grill and emblem.
|
You do great work. Looks awesome from here!
|
Well sort of, i F uped and used off white on the grill not even thinking it was a white. But its not a restoration so I'll live.
|
Well i feel stupid, started putting the engine in the 108 and noticed i forgot to install the starter tension arm. So now i have to pull the pto out a bit and put it on .GRrrrrrrrr:bash2:
|
Don't feel bad , I'm putting the 102 back together and right at the end have made a few mistakes like that. I had to drop the starter to get pto clutch rod on, and when I did, noticed I never TIGHTENED the bracket your talking about!
