Fuel Line

Does anyone know where I can get a stainless or copper fuel line for the K161? I had 1 spare and used it, now need 1 more? Is there a supplier or a chance someone has one in their spare parts?

R Bedell 03-04-2017 01:22 PM

You can buy 1/4" (OD) usually at any Hardware Store.

Is it the same as steel brake line? Not sure about the brass nuts though.:bigthink:

Got one on the bench right now. And no, it is not for sale. Hard to read but the OD is 3/16 and a 1/8 drill bit fits inside.

R Bedell 03-04-2017 05:57 PM

If it is 3/16" OD, there is Copper tubing that size. That may be a tad harder to find. Usually a HVAC/R type of business carries it. I know I do.

Why not? :biggrin2: One of you guys who knows how to make one should help me!

Looking at the picture Dirty Steve put up the 7 must be different than the 10 and 12. Join

zippy1 03-05-2017 12:24 AM

I made mine for the "O" Ronnie. But I'm not going through the whole thread trying to find it. Sorry... I used copper tubing. Pretty easy to make, just take your time, so not to kink it. Never good when it gets kinked.
Nuts I got from "somebody":biggrin2:

I will look through it and see if I can find it. How do you make the flange on the ends? That would be the only thing I don't know how to make? :bigthink: I had a spare and used it just last week on my other O. It had a rubber line.

Page 25. Just says you made it and a picture.

Alvy 03-05-2017 09:35 AM

Ronnie there's no flange on the end, just straight cut. I might have one I will look

R Bedell 03-05-2017 09:40 AM

Ronnie:

The rubber bushings, when compressed by the nut, provide the sealing. As previously stated, it is a straight cut ends.

PM Lew, he made some up awhile back.

Thanks for that. Where do you get the nuts?

Squirrels have nuts, so do chipmunks, you also need the elbows to put your nuts on.

Case IH has them too.

ambrola 03-05-2017 03:15 PM

This is just too complicated. I WILL find a used one. If not, I will put rubber on it and be done with it.

J-Mech 03-05-2017 03:26 PM

Put a rubber hose on it and run it. That's what I would do. Forget the metal line. Isn't worth the hassle.

mortten 03-05-2017 03:37 PM

IHCCW has two nuts. Part number KH-220786. They also have a picture of the line itself but don't have any.

Come on Ronnie, don't be fuel-ish, you want it to be correct, besides that will be a sharp bend for a rubber hose.

I don't give up that easy. :biggrin2: If I must, I will take one of mine and have a couple stainless ones made.

ambrola 03-11-2017 02:15 PM

I found these at a hardware near me. They fit in the carb. and sediment bowl. Any reason they wouldn't work with the compression nuts?

J-Mech 03-11-2017 03:06 PM

Those appear to be made for a copper style ferrule. No, they will not work with the rubber style ferrule.

finsruskw 03-11-2017 03:26 PM

Looks just like the one that was on my 104.

Jon
Are you sure about that? They look like what was on my O. :bigthink:

J-Mech 03-11-2017 04:51 PM

Yes, I'm pretty sure. Hardware stores don't sell the type for rubber seal. The threads are different at the nut. It's a fine thread on the rubber type, and the flange is different. With a nut on and screwed down tight, they look identical, but they are different thread.

Now, would they seal..... Maybe since it's just gravity fed. But I'd lay a dollar down and say the nut already on the line is fine thread.

Lew want's the dollar. :biggrin2:

darkminion_17 03-11-2017 05:29 PM

Yes I am getting one dollar.

finsruskw 03-11-2017 05:36 PM

OK, I give up, so, how many points will I be docked for using non-OEM fittings on the fuel line??

Long as the nut fits and mushes down tight around the fuel line and into the fitting..and it don't leak.....who the he!! gives a rats azz!!??

J-Mech 03-11-2017 05:36 PM

If he's got a old nut, and it fits, I'll send Lew the dollar.

IH tractors used the same fittings, but standard hardware store ones are threaded/sized different. BTDT too many times, but I'll eat crow and send the dollar if it works.

It's not about that. It's that there are two styles of fittings. One style uses a metal ferrule, and the other uses a ruber one. The fittings are different and won't interchange. Yes, you can use a copper ferrule style.... but everyone doesn't seem to want to do that. You can get the metal ferrule style at part stores, hardware stores....ect and they will work fine.

When I get home, I'll go through my fittings. I *think* I have some of each style. I'll post pics if I can find the fittings.

darkminion_17 03-11-2017 05:50 PM

Do you need my address?

mortten 03-11-2017 08:35 PM

The ones you show on the eBay picture are listed to fit serial number 315229 and below. Different number for 315300 and above.

J-Mech 03-11-2017 11:23 PM

Well.... looks like I get to eat crow. I went out and looked and looked.... and looked some more. I had a carb with the original fitting on it. I went to the drawer and pulled out a random, run of the mill fitting that used a brass ferrule. What do you know, the nut fit.

On the larger Farmall tractors, they used the exact same set-up, only bigger line. I have had these apart more times than I care to count. Diesel engines also used the same line. I couldn't find a single one of those fittings, or I would show you how they differ from a standard ferrule style fitting...... but I assure you, they are very different, so either the small 1/8" pipe size fittings are made different due to the size, or IH just used a different style on a Cadet than the other machines. I don't know, and for today, I'm tired of looking for answers. :beerchug:

I don't believe I have your address saved..... PM it to me and I'll send you a dalla!

EDIT: Never mind Lew, I do have it.

ambrola 03-12-2017 08:15 AM

FWIW, I took an original elbow with me. When I got home, I screwed the new one in and the threads were the same. I don't see a problem with them?

ambrola 03-18-2017 02:39 PM

Finally. Got all the parts and just made my own. If anyone needs one, I have a couple sticks of stainless. Never mind the Sarge hair. :biggrin2:
