The "72"
2 Attachment(s)
I have this little 72 that was used, abused and put outside. It is a cutie but needs some attention. So...here it is!
The process has started... |

The engine is apart and ready for the machine shop....usual stuff...cylinder bore...turn crankshaft and clean up ends...reface valves and recut valve seats...check valve guides.
Bearing on crank will be removed prior to machining.:beerchug: |
Looking good, keep the pictures coming.
|
Nice! I like projects, and 72s. :beerchug:

Good project Beth. Gotsta love those little buggers.:beerchug:
Should have one of the mods move your thread to the IH Cub Cadet GT section, right up front.:beerchug::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn: |
Update on the little "72"
2 Attachment(s)
The engine is mostly complete...I need to take it back to the machine shop and have the valve stems ground for proper clearance. It has been bored 0.010 over, crank turned, valves refaced and valve seats ground. Block was hot tanked and cylinder head refaced.
Starter/ generator has been completely rebuilt too! Chassis has damage and that will need some welding. Lots of little parts that I blasted in my Skat Blast cabinet almost ready for paint. |
Nice work!! Keep it up :beerchug:
|
Looks like a great project! Keep us posted on your progress.
|
Very nice! Keep the pictures coming. They will keep me motivated on a project. :beerchug:
|
Looking good!
|
Coming along I see.
Are you painting it or is Tim "The Master Painter" doing some of the parts? |
Great job, Beth!:beerchug:
|
Brianna, that's gonna be a nice little 72 when you finish it up. There is nothing like freshly blasted parts and a motor back from the machine shop awaiting assembly. Looks like the ole air compressor is getting a good workout too. Keep up the fine work and the pics flowing.:beerchug:
|
Thank you everyone for the nice comments!:beerchug:

Had new ID tags made for engine and starter/generator.
PTO engaging rod and starter switch cup were "chrome" powder coated. |
Looks good Beth, great attention to details.:beerchug:
|
Thanks Todd! I am building this tractor to be like the first Cub Cadet my dad bought new in 1969. So details are important.
|
The replacement ID tags for engine and starter/gen are impressive! Would you care to share your source? I'd love to have some done for one of my projects.

It has been awhile but I am making progress! I picked up the parts from the powder coater and they look fantastic! Have more to take. The engine and transmission are going to be spray painted. Here are some of the results.

Very Very Nice!!:beerchug::beerchug: That is gonna be a sweet little machine! I really miss my 72.. I let a friend talk me out of it... It was the best chore tractor I had.. the little K161 was sooo smooth and just chugged right along!:biggrin2:
Keep up the good work!:beerchug: |
