What is the most boneheaded thing you've done with your cub lately?
That you aren't embarrassed to admit :) I'll start- I'm sure most have read my Rim Guard and Terra Grips threads. For some reason I could have sworn my tires were 23 x 8.5 x 12. Thus I ordered the amount of Rim Guard for that size and the Terra Grips. I put the Rim Guard in one tire then went to put the Terra Grips on- I couldn't get them on to save my life. Then I re-read the label on the tire- sure enough 23 x 10.5 x 12. Ugh. So now I have to return the Terra Grips, eat the return shipping cost and buy the right size.
In other news (likely old new for those already familiar with Rim Guard)- I broke the bead, replaced the valve stem with metal and poured 5 gallons into the tire, then aired it back up. It's significantly heavier than the air filled tires- much more so than I could imagine. I did spill a little and it's pretty sticky and smelly but cleans up easy. According to the fitment chart, I have room to fit about 1.5 more gallons per tire, figure about 15 more lbs. Not sure if this is worth me going back to buy more though. :bigthink: Fortunately no snow is in the forecast and my check valves are on their way back, so the cub should be running again by end of week. :beerchug: http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...ps099yqiyd.jpg |
Not a new mess up but once replaced points coil condenser key switch and half the wiring on my very first 102... still didn't run....
Was out of fuel :/ |
Two cans in the shop, neither labeled (that's changed) one had gas, the other diesel fuel. Guess which one I used to fill the tank on the 1882? It tried to run until the bowl filled with diesel and talk about smoke!!! I thought I blew it up. Drained the tank, lines, and the carb. Adding fresh gas and new plugs cleared up the brain fart.

Last winter I left a light on. Completely killed my battery. I thought it was done. I put it on the charger and it didn't charge it. I had to bring it inside the house (where it was warm) and charge it for a couple days. That brought it back. I make sure I shut lights off now when I'm done and haven't done anything stupid in a while.
Good times. |
I had my freshly rebuilt K301 for my 100 all set up for it's first start. Tried for nearly an hour to get it to fire. I changed the coil, condensor, plug wire, plug and still no fire. Went over the coil wiring one more time and there it was, wire from coil + to - post on battery. Switched it to + post and it fired right up.

It wasn't my Cub but my Toro snowblower. ( actually before I got any cubs as I had a postage size yard --20 minutes with a push mower )
We had a big snow and the electric was out. I pulled the snow blower out of the van and attempted to start it. I pulled and pulled and pulled. Check gas and when I went to check spark, I realized I didn't turn the key on. :bash2: :bash2: :bash2: :bash2: :bash2: |
Ugg, some real winners, here
Boy, I done a number on my 1450 this past summer. Tearing down our old back porch, I tied up to a 4 x 4 post using my 3/8ths logging chain to the 1450. Backed up toward the post for some slack, and went a head forward! Both rear tires spun on concrete, even though the tractor was weighted down with wheel weights and counter weight. The post snapped, and away I went. Well, now I hear a grinding, or mashing sound from the pump or trans axle. I'm now preparing to tear down the rear end of my 1450, and see what's up! Just got a bunch of stuff from Charlie to help me out!!
Never again am I being stupid like that!! :biggrin2: |

The biggest bone head thing I did was buy the first one! :biggrin2::crap: Now I have 6. They seem to have babies like a cat.

15 years ago we were dyno testing a new motor, I hooked up the vacuum pump to the crankcase wrong so it pressurized the crankcase , anyway it blew the fill plug out and sprayed oil all over both of my Harleys.
|
Pulled a 12' JD disk in transport mode. After a little rocking back and forth, finally got it moving. Was moving it to a different spot on the farm and space was to small to get a farm tractor to it.

Before mowing with the 1211 I always check the oil and one day I didn't make sure the dipstick was snapped in the whole way, about 15 minutes later I notice oil running down the side panels. There was only half a qaurt left in the engine and the rest was all over everything else, what a mess that was to clean.

I filled my push mower up with diesel. My diesel can had crud in it so filled a gas can up and forgot to label it. I realized once it was hammering and soot started coming out of the exhaust. Recently I changed a shear pin in the thrower and didn't tighten the belt back up.

I have been thinking about this thread. I can't decide if I should list the boneheaded moves alphabetically or chronologically.:biggrin2:
Just off the top of my head; Was reassembling the rear of the 2182 I left the drain plug out and the rest you can guess. |
I was standing next to the 100 adjusting the carb last week when it was running and the vibration kicked the pto on, at least I let the deck down all the way to the ground. I still have all 10 of my toes.
Filed the bracket so it don't do that no more. |
I brought home a wayward 147 without an engine.

Last summer I wanted to move a 682 I had just bought to a property I have in the mountains for mowing. I have a 5x10 ft. trailer that I use for that. So it was Friday an I wanted to get it loaded before the wife got home cause I use her 4runner to pull it. So I hook the trailer to my 782 witch I do often to jockey the trailer around an park it on a pretty good down slop on my driveway. Drop the rear gate an drive the 682 up the ramp. Well as soon as I got the rear wheels on the trailer it lift the front of the trailer enough to cause a runaway 782 for about 40 ft. till she went off the drive into the woods with me sitting on the 682 on the trailer. Talk about a heart pounding moment. At least the 782 didn't hit any trees before we got stopped.

Funny thing was we were hauling the tractor to get the brakes worked on. I had it in creep, so I just kept shifting from forward to reverse along the few extra feet I had on the trailer to keep on top of it. Now I have a ramp made of dirt, and I back the trailer into the hole and climb the dirt to get on top. No ramps, the slope keeps it put, and no runaways. Still haven't told either my wife or my mother... |
