New to the Cub Cadet world

Hey everyone,
So I saw this for sale and bought it for somthing to tinker with. I'm new to the world of cub cadet and had a few questions for you guys.
1. It has a weight box on the back, is that somthing the old farmer put on there? Or was it an extra?
2. I'd like to add a creeper gear and was wondering a good what a good price is? I've found a whole setup for $250
3. Does this look like a good buy for $150
4. Are the k241 with the high compression heads rare?

Thanks in advance and looking forward to the resto.

Are you trying to post pics directly from your cell phone? If so it always works better if you crop the picture before posting.

Welcome to OCC!
It looks like a good deal for the tractor.
A so-so deal on the creeper, but not out of line
All looks factory to me but others who are experts on the weight boxes will confirm.

Thanks Terry, glad to be here. The creeper gear is only a few towns over so I don't mind paying for convenience.

The weight box looks homemade, the real ones are shorter and longer. If your going to add a creeper I would also add a new driveshaft, clutch and throwout bearing, these items will definitely have some wear on a machine that old. We have a member here that makes shafts for a very reasonable price, his screen name is Jeff in Pa. Here's a link to his thread.

How can a box be shorter and longer? :biggrin2:

it does run, however i'm getting white smoke out the breather and exhaust. i'm guessing that the rings are either stuck or worn. ran some mmo through it and that helped a lot. Still small puffs out the breather tho. either way i think i will send it out for a rebuild

Try a head gasket before you rebuild it. Sand the head flat and put on a new gasket. You will have to sand it flat eventually so you are only out the price of a gasket.

ok i will def try that:ThumbsUp:

Welcome !!
Nice 100, I just picked one up also. Your weight box is some sort of ammo box, what is it filled with?

X2 on the driveshaft and replacement clutch parts.

BTW, Tim used to be a hand model till he got older and became a professional painter.

Welcome! It's a hell of a deal! The wheel weight worth alone $125 and the fenders can bring $200 to $250 so take it ASAP before "The Lew" find it!

(The Lew is a strange creature who can smell the scent of a cub cadet buried 6 feet underground):biggrin2:

He filled it with concrete! I'm thinking it may be a bit much...

Yea I'd say that's a bit to much, the axle bushings are probably shot.

BBB123 12-21-2016 04:21 PM

Thanks for the input everyone, I'll be posting more pics once I start the tear down.
