Some work on the 2182

1 Attachment(s)
My 2182 needed new wiring, rear end work, and some cosmetic things attended to so I got it up on the lift and got started. Removed the battery mount to get some paint cause PO let a battery freeze and leaked all over it.
It has a small leak in a hydrolic line by the pump that needs attention.
SGT braces and rear tube drain holes will be after that.
Had to see what the true powers looked like on it also :)
I will paint them white before leaving the rears on.

Thanks to Sam for the rewiring diagram and hints on cyclops tractors!

Now pics so it happens:

Looks like fun! Somedays I wish I had a lift table, well only the days I'm working on lawnmowers, ATV's, golf carts...:biggrin2:

Dirty Steve 11-21-2016 08:09 PM

Been there, done that. One step at a time.:beerchug:

Terry C 11-21-2016 10:48 PM

Never as easy as you think

Removed the wiring from front of the tractor, that was easy. Started pulling the wires out of the back, removed the seat pan and what a mess. Thought only diesels were this messy.:biggrin2:
Got over that shock and can see the trunion needs work. Thought it might be ok since the tractor only has 500hrs. No such luck.
Oh well it's relaxing for me so I'll keep pushing on :beerchug:

Here is the Mr Gasket fuel pump option from CCC. Was worth at least 5hp :biggrin2:
PO moved it to the back plate to keep it from getting hit while backing up.:biggrin2:
I noticed there was two seat switches that won't be used again , I now feel twice as unsafe. :biggrin2:

Oak 11-22-2016 07:12 AM

Looking good Terry. You'll have her cleaned up and all the electrical demons out of her for good.:beerchug:

Sam Mac 11-22-2016 07:13 AM

Looks like a trip to the pressure washer is in order. Love the fuel pump PO mod, that's a new one.

ACecil 11-22-2016 12:33 PM

You've been busy, Terry!

Terry C 11-22-2016 09:24 PM

Not much progress today. Little wiring testing which I won't get into, ordered rear gaskets, seals, and a new tunnel cover. Local IH/cub dealer beat the price online on all items.
Called around for side panels but not many cyclopes in my neck of the woods
I know I will have to throw them on the water jet to cut the extra vents and exhaust hole but I can't find any.
Does anybody know all the cyclops numbers? I know a few but a complete list would help when I call Patton.

J-Mech 11-22-2016 09:35 PM

Good work so far Terry!

Shouldn't matter on model number. Patton know what a Cyclops is, and I'm certain any of them will work, once you put it on the water jet.

Terry

Make sure you clean out the shut off valves. Pics are typical of what you'll find.

darkminion_17 11-26-2016 06:26 PM

Coming along Terry,Already went through all that on the 1863,side panels are a must.Hope you find some.

Terry C 11-26-2016 06:35 PM

Sam, Cleaned them out and checked for proper operation.

Lew, found side panels about 3hrs from me. Some NOS 2182, also used ones
and non cut out ones. Price varies by condition of course.

Dirty Steve 11-26-2016 07:26 PM

You are in to win it. Keep at it!:beerchug:

ACecil 11-26-2016 11:50 PM

While waiting for parts to come in I noticed that the steering cylinder had faded much more than the rest of the painted items. So I repainted it. Really just running out of things to update this thread. :)

ACecil 11-30-2016 12:44 PM

Looking good, Terry!

Terry C 11-30-2016 12:54 PM

Thanks Allen :beerchug:

Sam Mac 11-30-2016 04:52 PM

lol. So what did you go with for paint? Rattle cans? What brand and color? I'm going to be doing some painting on my 2182 soon since I have everything torn apart. I wish my steering cylinder just needed paint...going to have to replace it due to a leak. I had a coolant leak so I rented a pump to pressurize it. At first I thought it was coming from a seam on the radiator and was dreading to repair or replace it....at almost $500 to replace! Luckily it was a hose clamp. After fixing that it held 18psi for over 4 hours so I got lucky on that one!

Sam Mac 11-30-2016 05:21 PM

I'm all about rattle cans. :biggrin2:

I tried several different colors, including caseIH but the best match for the amount the rest of the tractor had faded was Rustolium farm equipment Catapillar Yellow. Wasn't going to repaint the whole thing, just match what I had.
It was rattle can.

taylorjm 11-30-2016 06:54 PM

Cool. Thanks. I saw that some people uses that color as well and it seemed like a pretty good match.

Deck work

1 Attachment(s)
Here is the deck for the 2182. Everything looks pretty good, probably clean it up and go thru the things Sam suggests in past posts
Sorry about the poor pic.

I think this decal is funny because there is not a warning that says don't run without the shield in place on the cover itself. The warning is under the shield and tells you that the cover is missing. I see it's missing a bracket that holds the drivers side shield on.
Have to make one of those. I have the covers and will use them, although I like the old school deck plate shields so maybe I'll look for a set.

Alvy 12-05-2016 06:33 PM

I have the same deck. Do the early model diamond plate ones fit on these later model ones with the smooth guards?

Sam Mac 12-05-2016 07:14 PM

Mounts for the guards are totally different. Time for the welder. Just my 2 cents, put the shields on the shelf, much easier to keep the crap from building up and rotting out the shell. Keep your toes out of the belts if you like your toes. :biggrin2:

Nightow1 12-05-2016 07:51 PM

I had the older deck on my 2182, traded it to Rescue11 for the newer style. thought it looked better on it. Pluss he wanted it for his 982.

Nearing the end. The drivers side panel is the better of the two that came with it. I'm going to put a snow blower on this machine so I will wait till spring for new plastic. Like I sad earlier this is s working machine so my goal was to make it mechanically top notch, but will not be a show winner.
Since the pic I repainted the seat mount to match the fenders. I'm pretty sure that that mount system was designed by Satan. Stupid carriage bolts keep falling out! Also tried some trim restore on the fender flares, with some success but as they say you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear.
On to the deck. It needs no repairs but I will look thru the threads on Hahans and see about reinforcing in strategic places.
I doubted the hour meter till I looked at the mule drive. It shows no signs of wear where I've seen others show it. So that will just get new pulleys.

This is the snow blower I found. Anybody use one? All I see here is 450 and 451s

Dirty Steve 12-12-2016 03:05 PM

http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=15947

Terry, I would stick to a 450 or 451 for less head aches. Might need some modification to make it work on a Cyclops Super.

I found it listed under QL's such as 1250 and 1650.

Just a small thing, and probably everybody else knows, but I found these screws at the hardware store. Fixed up the broken out hole on the plastic. They were a car interior trim screw. Already black.
Now if could find a new red lens for the dash lights..

Very nice I think. Just got the deck reinforcing plates on yesterday. Made some new bushings for the front wheels of the deck.
