Spring Assist

I got 2 of these springs from Rob Houtz that were supposed to be for a Spring for the assist for an Original. As you can see, they are way to long. Can I cut them to make it work? I also have 2 if anyone needs one, that is if I can cut them to size?

I would guess that they aren't going to work, spring steel is very difficult to work with, very hard. Did you ask Houtz if they possibly sent the wrong ones by accident?
Mike

Send them back. They aren't right....

Yes I did and sent that same picture to him. I haven't heard back, but it is Sunday. Hopefully, he will respond tomorrow. If he doesn't, I'll send it once more, then it's goes on to Pay Pal. I have never dealt with him, but I would guess he's a good guy. He is promoted here in the sponsors adds?:bash2:

Ronnie did you specifically order the spring assist spring for the O? The one you got looks like the later springs for the later model assists.

Oh yes I surely did Alvy. Guess I will give him a call Monday. I don't want to mess the springs up, they are correct for something?

And this was the best thing I have found all year! Since I'm talking to myself, I'll be quite now.:biggrin2: I should say Rob made things right with the wrong parts.

Nice find Ronnie!

J-Mech 11-08-2016 04:40 PM

Alright Ronnie... you got me. What is it? :bigthink:

Yosemite Sam 11-08-2016 08:22 PM

It's a mulching shield (or plug if you will) for a 38" timed deck.

That might be, but I could make that in 30 min and you would never know it wasn't OEM. I don't consider parts that easy to duplicate "rare".

jeremytally 11-09-2016 09:41 AM

Found one on eBay.

Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/172402946020

I know. It really would be easy to make. But 10.00 bucks I am happy.

Nice! I recently got a brinly hitch for my O and wouldn't mind getting a spring assist setup for mine. Really makes the back of the tractor look beefy!

Well, I have the T bracket and a spring I cut down that will work. I think Jeff has the pin and washer to complete it? Here's a picture.
