Will this deck fit?

Hey all!

Ok, will my IH 38" mower deck off my model 86 Wide frame fit on to my 1450 with out any problems? Both mule drives for both models are in good working order.

Thanks

John

It should go wright on

Depending on what mule drive and lift are on the QL, you may want to use the mule and lift from the 86.

But yes, Jason is exactly right.

You may have a tire rub issue depending on where the tires mount on the mower deck and how wide of a tire you have on your 1450

All of my 38 have the deck wheel in side for back tires of the tractor

My deck wheels are on the outside.

I don't think any of my 38" triangle shaped, cast nose decks have wheels at all.

The 38" cast end decks do though (outside the rear tires).

Wow! Thank you all, for the great replies! I believe I'm going to use the 1450's mule drive, if I have the correct length belt needed. I do have the drive belts from both the 50" deck of the 1450, and the 38" deck of the model 86.

My 1450 is now going to be equipped with this mower deck. I'm going to equip my model 72 with my nicest IH 42" snow blade, and make this my full time snow tractor! I'm looking forward to having the deck on my 1450 now!

My 86 is going to get painted later on down the road, and up grading to a k301 engine.

Thanks again! I'll get back with an update,.......

you'll have to use the mule drive for the 38" deck ..it's different for the 50"

dale c, Went with your advice. The two mule drives have many differences, but whether or not those differences matter, I don't know. Seems to have turned a light on, in my mind, anyway.

So, the Wide Frame IH 38" deck is now correctly installed on my 1450!!!! For 1971(?) mowing deck, it's condition really is in better than tonight's pictures accredit it. Finishing up with supper, going back out to the cubby garage to finish up with my 1450!

Sure does look good under the heavily powered Kohler K321QAs! :biggrin2:

Here is the Wide Frame deck, serial number 382U 1113

I was surprised at the amount of differences between the Wide Frame and Quiet Line mule drives.

The deck operates great! When the rain stops,I plan on using it to see what is does!

Is your deck going get repainted this winter?

That sure would be nice! I'd have the pan sandblasted, for sure, to save this mower. It looks like those are 3/8ths carriage bolts ( 3 ea. ) securing the three spindles to the pan, but I'm not sure. I think I'm missing rear deck brackets and wheels. This deck has one rust hole, but really is in fair condition! Blades seem in good shape too :biggrin2:

Boy, I think I could really use that white under carriage.

The subframe in that pic is for a wide frame, I believe your looking for a narrow frame.

johncub7172 09-18-2016 09:51 AM

Ronnie, I purchased that push blade sub frame here:

www.hauckenterprises.com

Was $75 delivered to my door. Not a bad price, in my opinion

:biggrin2:

Update:

The 38" works great, as does the tractor running it. As most are aware, the mule drive and sub frame unit have 1 adjustable lift link on the right side of the tractor, and a simple, slotted lift link on the other side. Well, I replaced the slotted lift link on the left side for another adjustable lift link that I had extra of, and I leveled up the deck fairly well, judging by the cut of the grass, and the fact that I don't have rear deck gauge wheels. The cut is level, and achieved rather quickly by adding that link!

My 1450 now has a 38" IH deck!

Thanks guys!

That's awesome, John!

John, those decks cut very well in dry grass if they are clean with new blades. They dont like wet grass, kinda just blobs it out the chute in dough-like balls.

Other than the small size they are probably my favorite deck because of how quiet they are.

Here is my 1450 with the same deck

I'll be darn, the same set up as me! Does your 38" deck have rear gauge wheels? I can't tell from the picture. Thought i seen in the for sale section, DaneinPA is selling an 86, and I don't recall seeing wheels on that one either.

I need to sharpen my blades, however the blades are not chewed up, or dinged. I have my 50" for my 1450, and a 48" for the 125. We also have a '13 CC LGT 1050 with a 50". So, this 38" on my QL gets around where the larger cant. I can't get over how much engine for such a small deck, not that I tried tall grass,....
