Plant Identification
 

We recently purchased a house and it has this plant in the flower bed. I don't know what it is, I have not seen it bloom, only with these seed pods on the stalks. I want to figure out if it's anything special I might regret removing before I yank it out. Any help is appeeciated.

actually it is a yucca plant.

Makes sense, it looked like those agave plants, turns out it's in the agavoideae species. Now how to turn it into tequila.....:bigthink:

we have one at my house that's about 4ft tall, i wish it would die but it seems to be the only thing that grows around here.:biggrin2:

Yep, yucca as mentioned.
They have very deep roots too. Dad dug out a large clump of plants in his yard years ago. The fiber root clumps went down about two feet in the ground.
Yes, very hardy and tough.

You may have better luck digging up the house and moving it instead.

If it keeps coming back spray it with some glyphosate, it should take care of it.

So I'm getting the impression I'm not going to be able to just rip it out, rototill over it and call it done...... :biggrin2:

You may be able to get it pulled/dug out, but they are a pretty hardy plant.

Let us know what you end up doing with it, and then let us know if it comes back again.

Thanks Mark. After readings everyone's warnings, I did a little research online. I came upon this thread, it's been going for over a decade. Some people have been trying for years to get rid of them, the thread kind of turned into a support group for those who can't get rid of/kill the them. Some if it is pretty funny, I'm hoping the variety I have is not as difficult to eradicate as some of these others are saying. I plan to work on it this weekend and will keep you updated.

Well, its been 2 months, I thought I would update for those dying to the hear the outcome. I spent about 3 hours (over a couple days) digging and sifting through the dirt to pull out all the root pieces I could see. I went through the dirt a second time as I backfilled the hole so hopefully I will not be doing this again. I tilled the area yesterday and raked out rocks today. Another round with the tiller, more raking and some leveling and hopefully it will be ready for seed this weekend.
