Cub cadet 1450
Hello, i have a 1450 cub thats been acting up on me.
I can run it for about an hour n then it quits, it would run after awhile then do the same thing, I put in a new coil, wire, and relocated the coil under dash, it fired righ up and i used it to backblade my driveway for about an hour or so and it was running great, then it quit, just like i turned off the key. So i waited a couple hours and tried to start it again and nothing. I pulled the plug, check for spark, nothing. So i opened up the points, cleaned them up, rolled over and i have spark at points but still nothing at the plug.even tried a different plug wire. I noticed that when i turn the key on, the coil gets really hot to the touch and its not even running, i thought the old coil was getting hot from running it so thats why i changed it. It pretty much did the same thing as the old coil but now i lost spark at the plug. Any ideas? I checked n doublechecked all wires. |
Put a 12V test light on the points side of your coil and spin the engine over. What does the test light do?
|
Flashes on n off

If the coil is getting that hot I'd suspect it's junk.

The brand is standard uc12, from auto parts store
I also replaced the condenser with new one. This was the first time i used it since replacing both, only got a hour or so out of it. |
That's an automotive coil without an internal resistor. You need a coil with an internal resistor of 3.8 to 4.2 ohms. Go to NAPA and get an IC64 coil or get the proper Kohler replacement.

Do i still use the condenser with the IC64?
|
Yes. Condensor Primeline (part # 7-01338)
|
These are the correct Ignition Coils.
Standard OEM.... http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w...3.png~original A Better Coil.... http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w...A.jpg~original |
If the points are closed and the key is on (engine not running) the coil WILL get hot.
Leave it set like that very long and the points will weld themselves together. |
I would suspect the coil is junk.
I just went through something similar. Had a coil die on me, ran to the auto parts store and purchased a coil to get the job done, was able to run the tractor for another 2 hours and the coil died. I replaced with the Bosch Blue coil and that fixed the problem. |
+1 on the Bosch Blue coil.
