42" deck Spindle rebuild help?

Greetings.

My right side spindle is toast on my 100. It's. 42" deck with cast iron bumpers on the front. I must admit that I'm a novice when it comes to rebuilding spindles. This thing was so roached and crispy, when I removed it, tons of roller bearings fell on the ground, along with the detached, crispy basket before I could even see how how anything was arranged.

I'm guessing I need to rebuild this thing with new bearings and such, but I don't really know what. I've done some searching, but haven't been able to find a list of everything I need for this specific model. I've included 4 photos of my spindle and the condition it is in. Could anyone be so kind advising me what parts I need to purchase to rebuild it? I greatly appreciate your help.

Thank you!

pic of spindle , I have brg and seal numbers somewhere I can send to you, bearing cup and cones ( Timkin )are available from bearing suppliers as are seals which are less pricey than obtaining them from cub ! as long as you have the bearing spacers and didn't ruin the shaft it should be repairable it looks like the earlier type spindle which are fairly simple to rebuild,a lot of info and help is available on this site ! good luck

I think you have the one piece bearings...

I happen to know a member here (my brother) who has a 42" deck that was shot, but had good spindles. He was just telling me today that he was going to sell the spindles and junk the deck. I can PM you his info if you are interested in some good used. If you do have the one piece design, the bearings are about $175 a piece.

This is for a 38" deck but will apply to the 42".

I'm leaning toward J-Mech as possibly the water pump bearing style , I could only see one pic but a second look has me thinking about it again !

175$ a piece??!?! Yowza!!! I paid $350 for the whole tractor and deck! How much is your brother selling the good spindles for? Are they complete with bearings and everything I need to get mowing again?

Thanks!

And thank you for all the replies and help from everyone so far!

St745

If they are the one piece bearing ST745 specialties had them for 68 bucks. But that's still pretty pricey if you need more than one.

It is possible. Interesting. That is the same bearing that is $175 from CCC... :bigthink: It's not like Charlie to be cheap, even if he got a good deal. Usually his price reflects CCC's price (or just a tad cheaper) if the part is still available.

I'll have him PM you.

To the guys in this thread in "awe" over the link to the Owners manual for the deck..... it's also available on THIS (OCC) site. No big mystery.

have you tried pulling up a manual via the link you posted?

Does it come up for you?

For weeks, maybe months, when you try to view the pdf, the download stalls out.

anitasanger 09-01-2016 10:08 AM

I appreciate that!! Thank you.

This is the only manual anywhere I could find on the Originals deck? It has helped me tremendously.

That's not a manual. It's just a parts pic..... available anywhere you look up Cub Cadet parts.

Why do you newbies have so much trouble finding information on OCC......:Unknown:

I posted the MTD link because I didn't see that exact document in the manual list. All I saw was operator manuals which didn't show the service procedure. Charlie's ST745 spindles are $68.00.

Those are the wrong spindles for this application. Those are for the newer style spindle, which the OP does not have. He could swap to those, but then would have to buy all the other housings to go with it.
