Another problem... sheesh! The 124 is taking money that I don't have :bash2:

J-Mech 08-17-2016 12:51 AM

Well, I don't mean to be a d*** but if you had known what you were looking at you would have noticed that before you bought it. :RollEyes2:

Yeah, you need a new clutch, and likely other related parts.

olds45512 08-17-2016 12:59 AM

looks like you'll be needing a 3 pin driver as well, i'd bet that the driveshaft and throwout bearing are toast or close to it.

jaynjeep 08-17-2016 02:05 AM

I dont think ive ever seen one quite that bad!! They got ALL the goodie out of that unit!!:beerchug:

GreenAcres 08-17-2016 07:48 AM

It was going to the scrap yard, but I saved it. I'm trying to get it back to running order. The front pto had already been rebuilt. Its just gonna take time and money.

J-Mech 08-17-2016 09:05 AM

Then stop complaining it's taking money you don't have. If you can't afford to fix it, let it sit until you do. It's not a high priority.

Tom4981 08-17-2016 09:06 AM

Take one step at a time and don't get overwhelmed.

rwairforce 08-17-2016 10:53 AM

Hydros don't have that problem. Sorry for your bad luck.
Consider it a project now. Whenever you save something from the junk yard it's usually going to be a project. Time and money are the ingredients.
If you don't have one use the other.
I've found complete units on Ebay before. Happy hunting or you could always take it back to the junk yard. Just another option.

Greenacres. Where are you located in Ky?

GreenAcres 08-17-2016 12:21 PM

Located in london KY.... and that's a big fat no to take it back to the junk yard....I'll fix this one at least it's not made out of plastic like the new ones. I'll get it one part at a time.

Thats what I like to hear....keep us all updated.

john hall 08-17-2016 01:30 PM

Two ways to go about the repair. Buy an entire used driveline--maybe a tractor puller is stripping one down somewhere, check ebay or post in the wanted section. I would hate to think about the cost if you ordered all that new! A possible third option is to buy what can't be repaired and remade, fix the rest if you have the skills and equipment. Regardless of your approach, don't get discouraged, those clutches tore out when the machine was 10 years old so its no surprise it happened at this stage of the game.

Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of giving you a hand with fixing it but you're quite a ways away.

Thanks y'all ... I just got a new 3 point clutch drive...now to wait till I can get a new clutch disc/bearing..ect.

mortten 08-17-2016 03:04 PM

Watch when you put that thing on. I read somewhere someone had a problem with the bolts being too long and hitting something.

GreenAcres 08-17-2016 03:29 PM

Thanks for the heads up. I hope I don't have that problem.

mortten 08-17-2016 03:48 PM

I think he ground them shorter

jaynjeep 08-17-2016 04:31 PM

Looking good..

Sometimes those one piece at a time projects are the best and the most fulfilling when done!! :beerchug::beerchug:

When it takes time to save the money and effort to make it go again you will appreciate it more in the end... :beerchug:

Keep plugging away and don't get discouraged...

It will be a nice tractor that will last another 50 years if you do it right.:biggrin2:

I can make you a driveshaft and couplers if you need to replace them.

I make all kinds of parts http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=20875

Yes you will have to shorten them, I have one on my 1200 and I cut them down. Not difficult.

GreenAcres 08-17-2016 11:39 PM

Ok thanks. Is there a way I can tell if my driveshaft needs replacing? I don't see no scruffs, or grooves on it?

jaynjeep 08-18-2016 12:57 AM

If there are no worn areas where the clutch plates run or where the release bearing slides it should be fine... but most shafts are worn or bent by this point in life.. It would be a really good idea to put it in a lathe and check run out. (make sure it is straight) If you need one Jeff in PA makes great parts at reasonable prices... I would highly recommend him.!:beerchug::beerchug:

It amazes me what people will scrap. Apparently they aren't aware of Craigslist...

Their loss is your gain :D

Take your time, get it piece by piece and you'll get there. That's what I've done with my 149, I'm just about to finish the final bits to get it operational and it feels great.

As for the driveshaft pieces, keep an eye on e-bay, I picked up a whole new driveline for my 1200. I'm not sure if the pressure plates are the same, but if they are PM me, I have an extra pair I'd be willing to sell.
