Who made the IH # 48 tiller ?
I recently purchased an IH model 48 tiller that was made to be used with a 982 Cub Cadet. I am needing some parts for it. I have been told that they were made by Befco and or Bush Hog. I contacted both companies and they both denied making it. The same tiller was sold by JD and it was also sold by Snapper as their model 6-0375 plus other brands as well, the only difference being the paint color & decals. It has a Cat. "0" 3 pt. hitch and is made to run off of the 2000 RPM rear PTO. Does anyone have a clue as to who the mfg. of it could have been ?

What parts are you needing? Most parts are NLA..... Wouldn't matter if you did call the manufacturer. If the original manufacturer still made parts, then they would still be available through Cub Cadet.

Source the parts and make it.
PTO shafts are not hard to build. I've built many. Holler if you need help. Didn't you start a thread and someone posted a link to the parts?? :bigthink: http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=45176 |

I have bought most of the new parts to make it but I would still prefer to have an original one. That's just me. I want OEM parts if at all possible. I have tried to attach a pic of the piece I need. I'm not sure if it will be there when I post this message.

Your pix came through just fine,
I'm sure a lot of us like OEM stuff if possible, especially if it is a show restore. but with the links provided you will be able to use your tiller till the OEM one presents itself. Might want to look @ the bigger shows like Portland (the biggest) or post want adds in redpower mag as well as on here and do contact out sponsors @ the top of the page. You might get lucky.:beerchug: |
I think your hoping for a miracle. It's not like you can't build one exactly like OEM.

driveshaft
The bad thing is 3 years ago I bought 2 NOS ones on Ebay for 70.00. At the time I did not need them so I resold them at a profit. Now I could kick myself for not keeping one. I know somewhere out there is a couple more NOS ones but I will probably never run across them now. The picture I p[osted is one that belongs to a friend of mine that is off a tiller just like mine but of course he won't sell it because he needs it.

I don't see what the big deal is. It's a PTO shaft. To me, it's like wanting an original IH stamped belt to put on a tractor just to mow with it.
If you can't build one to look just like OEM, I can... if your willing to pay OEM, I'm sure you can afford mine. :biggrin2: |

Here are the new parts I have procured in the last few days. I still have to address the cuff and shaft. I have a full size milling machine and lathe and could make the rest of it myself but I only have 30% of my eyesight left and it is getting extremely hard for me to do any machine work anymore. I would still prefer to have an OEM one but if I can't find one I may have to settle with a home made one.

You don't have all the right parts. That second yoke in front of the square shaft is a quick couple end for a regular PTO. You don't need it. You need one that will weld onto the shaft. The splined shaft is stuck in the yoke backwards in your pic. No machining should be required at all. Should all be weld together.
You will need a weld on yoke for the square shaft. Make sure to get one that you can attach a guard to, or it won't be like OEM. |
