Had to rub that seat in didn't you? :biggrin2:
I've been looking for a 73. Congrats!

Alvy 07-22-2016 08:08 PM

Nice scores Lew. 73 looks good and fenders too. Did you take off the hard to find air cleaner cover or did someone get it before you? Quite the rugged hood handle

Cubcrazy 07-22-2016 08:13 PM

I have the air cleaner, one fender is bended.I may put a motor from an "O" in just to see how it runs,It will need a new wire harness though...

Shortened and ready to weld. I have a 3X diameter press fit into a reamed hole so it runs concentric. :beerchug:

Pipe wrench gouges were old but didn't impact runout.

darkminion_17 08-01-2016 11:16 PM

Looks good Jeff,I should have sent the other to you do the same, just in case I needed a spare.

64fleetside 08-03-2016 12:31 AM

Well today the postman brought a package from Jeff in pa,The shortened driveshaft. After cleaning the dirty balls and coupling parts,I found out I needed a fan, lucky for me I had one from the parts donor 1440.

Easy to install and it runs true as I am handsome.:beerchug:

Thank you Lew. :beerchug:

I checked runout before cutting, after pressing it together and after welding. My technique worked well.

Good to see it worked well
Jeff

Alvy 08-06-2016 10:45 PM

Nice work Jeff and Lew. You guys make a good team.

Jeff did you spin it really slow in the lathe and weld it while it's in there? I saw a drive shaft guy make one the other day and he had his mig set up in a fixture that he just pulled the trigger while it spun and it was all set

No, I drilled and reamed a hole in one side and the other side was press fit "pin" ( 3X diameter to length ) . I welded the root pass and then checked runout on the lathe. After verifying it was good, I finish welding it.

Rechecked runout and then I turned the weld OD to shaft size.

zippy1 08-07-2016 12:32 AM

Good work gentlemen.:beerchug:

I'm impressed, I'll keep you in mind for those custom drive shaft lengths. :beerchug:
