Home built leaf vacuum

I have needed one of these for years and when someone threw the engine/fan in the scrap metal hopper at the Cat dealership where I worked I couldn't resist the temptation to grab it. The engine had no compression and it turned out to be a stuck valve. After removing the head and cleaning everything it runs great. The body is almost all aluminum and the under carriage is steel with a widened MTD tractor front axle. The blower chute sides are made from excavator plexiglass windows, which is 1/4 in. or so thick and is tough stuff. It works great and will make the fall cleanup a lot easier.

That is neat! Would love to see some action shots this Fall.

Watching stuff go up the chute will be fun! Don't run into something watching:biggrin2:
Nice work!

I like it. Also like the clear chute for viewing any potential blockage.

Good job.

Nicely done!

Nice!

I just picked up a leaf blower with a bad carb that I'm thinking about turning into a vac-cart. It's a 5hp walk behind blower/vac/chipper. It kind of sucks as a blower... Maybe it'll suck better... :)

I've got a line on a free tractor that I'm going to rob the front axle from it to build a cart.

Home built leaf vacuum

This is an update on the leaf vacuum I built a couple years ago. I made three rubber paddles to bolt on to the impeller and the vacuum has increased three fold. The paddles match the curvature of the housing and the increased vacuum is amazing. It also handles leaves better that are damp. Jim

Do you have any pics or further detail on the rubber paddles you made?
