CCC Grille Emblem - How To ReAttach?
Hello OCC members,
I was out cutting grass yesterday and when I finished mowing something wasn't right on my grille... the CCC emblem was missing. Lucky for me I found it.:NailBite: Now my question is, how do I reattach it? The original posts that were on the back of it have broken off, so the back of the emblem are smooth. I can't tell if this is aluminum or pot metal. I am leaning towards pot metal given the era of the equipment. I don't really want to weld on it so welding on a small bolt seems out, but if its my only option so be it. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance for any advice. Picture for reference (I borrowed this image and do not own it): http://ihccw.com/images/0701/IMG_6453_46.JPG |
Put it in your tool box, junk drawer or whatever, when you sell your tractor, attach it with construction adhesive :beerchug:
I guarantee nobody will notice it's missing. When I was a young man we shaved the trunks/hoods and took off the running boards. :beerchug: there is a nice one on ebay, I think he only wants $250 ++ for it :bash2: |
I would put IH back :biggrin2:

Plus I really know its not an IH built tractor. IH designed maybe. The CCC logo is kind of unique and retaining it would be ideal. I might TIG on a couple small bolts to fasten it to the grille screen again. Still open for other ideas.:beerchug: |
Ain't no tiggin' iffin it's zinc diecast:bigthink:

Can you drill and tap it and insert studs?
I don't know how that thing originally attached so just a guess. |
Git yourself a couple of machine screws and nuts that are long enough.
Strategically locate said screws in the back of the badge with the threaded part pointing toward the grill... Then mix up enough epoxy to fill the hollow part of the badge and fill it up. When the epoxy has cured use the nuts to secure it back where it belongs. Wipe hands on pants. |
I would drill a small hole top and bottom and use two small machine screws to hold it on, once it's mounted dab the head with some black paint and no one will ever notice.

Use the beveled machine screws so you can counter sink the heads to hide even more...

Thanks Guys.
I think I might go the Epoxy/JB Weld route. There are ways to TIG weld it, but with some funky/expensive filler metal and mixed results. If the epoxy fails I'll try the machine screws like the others recommended. :beerchug: |

This is what I would use.
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/tes-08101 Take the grill off, mix up some of the adhesive then lay the screen of the grill on top of the glue and let it set. |
Assuming you have a steel grill insert, have you considered a couple small rare earth magnets? Mix up some of your favorite epoxy/JB Weld/Belzona,etc. stick the magnets to the emblem with plenty built up around the sides. Put a piece of fairly heavy paper/gasket material over the face of the magnets an then lay a small flat piece of steel over that to create an even plane. Next day pull the assembly off the piece of steel using the paper (you don't stress the epoxy this way). Stick the emblem on the Cadet and go mow. I think you can get the type magnets I am talking about from McMaster-Carr. We had some at work that were so strong if they got near one another they would slam together so hard it would break them. Don't get your finger between them---ask me how I know.:biggrin2:

Hmmm... Thanks Sam and John. The epoxy/adhesive route is sounding better and better. The magnets are a great idea too. I do have a steel mesh grille.

Cut a piece of metal or plexi glass the same size and shape as the emblem. drill and counter sink screws in it then attach the emblem to the new metal or plexi with 3m two sided emblem tape. Put the screws through the grill put nuts on. No drilling through original emblem.

They don't seem to be too rare.... Just get these if you are wanting to make it original.. and have extra's...

Just my 2 cents but it would be a cold day in H--L before I would pay that kind of money for an emblem for a garden tractor. :biggrin2:
