My First Cub Cadet

I am going to look at this girl Monday. The guy says it has been garage kept and used to mow grass only. He wants $500.00 for it. What do you guys think?

Looks like a fine machine.

olds45512 06-11-2016 09:44 AM

It has headlights and a taillight which were optional and a nice add on to have, it also still has the reflectors on the fenders which is rare and they sell for big bucks. The engine is a factory replacement engine ( black engines are a replacement engine) which is good because the engine is newer than the tractor so it probably not as wore out, it also has a rear lift which is about $120 to buy all by itself. From what I can see the deck looks solid, if it runs good and the deck is quite I'd say it's worth the $500 all day long but I'd still try to get it for $400.

The get guy said 500.00 firm and I think he would get mad if I tried to get him down. I have always been a Gravely guy, and have 3 Promaster 300's. I think I have become a mower collector? Here's a picture of the old Gravely's.

500 firm means he doesn't really want to sell it. A decent price but more than I'd pay.

Nice 125, it has some nice options. I'd say it's worth $500, especially having the replacement engine. Nice to see another NC member. I'm near the Fayeteville area.

Terry C 06-11-2016 09:24 PM

I think it's worth the asking price.

darkminion_17 06-11-2016 10:06 PM

I'd buy it for 500,add it to my collection.

From the pictures it looks clean and unmolested, unlike a lot of them. If it's what you want, and it runs good it's worth the money.:beerchug:

Heck, the seat is even a 6 pad seat, as well. It is well worth the $5 bills if it runs. If you have buyer remorse, you could part it and make some money....but that is taboo to me if it is a running machine.

As far as you being a mower collector, if you buy it then that will debunk that rumor since it is a garden tractor and can do a lot more than just mow your grass!

If it runs and don't smoke or knock, I'm bringing her home. I am also takeing my compression checker and will check that also. Like I said, I have always bought old Gravelys, and this will be my first Cub so I don't know much about them. What is the rear lift used for?

leave the compression tester at home, these engines have a compression release to help them start so the reading wont be accurate at all.

Thanks Tim.

The 3 point hitch is used for lifting many object, like a tiller, a cultivator, a disc, a rear blade, etc. Look carefully, that also has a bracket with a bolt in it above the driver's left rear tire....up on the frame. That bracket is for a spring assist, which makes implements seem like they are about 1/3 of their weight. Someone had several "optional extras" on that cub. That is a good thing!!

To make that rear hitch funtion you need the lower bracket that goes behind the hitch, it's on the left of the picture.
"What can you use with it"? Moldboard plow, rear blade, tiller, rake, pretty much all of the attachments for the rear. The possibilities are endless.:biggrin2:

ambrola 06-13-2016 08:45 AM

Are those the parts I need Zippy? #6 I think?

zippy1 06-14-2016 12:15 AM

Yes sir, that be it.:beerchug:
And three longer bolts.
Oh, and by the way that hitch is on upside down.

darkminion_17 06-14-2016 12:27 AM

#8 is not needed. ...

olds45512 06-14-2016 12:30 AM

i have a spare #6 around here somewhere, pm me if your interested.

TheSaturnV 06-14-2016 07:28 PM

ambrola,

The hitch (#7) is upside down on your purchase candidate, as someone pointed out. Refer to your drawing for the correct way, and the bottom 3 bolts have to be longer to be able to reach through #6 and 7.

twoton 06-14-2016 10:11 PM

Well worth the 500. You'll have a lot of fun with that tractor. With regards to the longer bolts, be careful, make sure you know what length will fit, you wouldn't be the first guy to crack the rear housing with a bolt that was to long.

Have fun.:beerchug:
