New Cub ( maybe a 70?)

I picked up another Cub last night. Came with a solid mower deck and a really nice snow blower. It's in very nice shape over all. The guy said his grandfather said it's a 1964. I didn't get to look at the serial number yet. It hasn't run in a few years. His grandfather passed away before he could get it running again. The seller said he thinks it's an ignition problem. There are a few broken wires which will be replaced before I even try anything else. More to follow as I get further into it.

I'm diggin' the red auger. Nice tractor too.

Looks like a 100, not bad.

Yeah. A bit lean in the seat department.

I try not to take it on real bumpy roads. :biggrin2: What makes it look like a 100?

The size of the engine/air filter. That was the only difference between a 100 and a 70 was the engine. From that angle it appears to be a k241 or k301

Will certainly check engine tag and serial number when I get home.

+ The 70 uses an acorn nut on the steering wheel and the 100 uses a center cap.

Nice 100, it also has the big battery box. You have an early 100.

darkminion_17 06-10-2016 12:03 PM

Nice find on the 100,they make a good mowing tractor.

Jeff122 06-10-2016 06:06 PM

Yea, Lew. Surprised you didn't see this. Glad you didn't. :biggrin2: I have a friend looking for a mower deck. Will let you know which tractor he wants to put it on. Maybe you have one to sell. Anyway, I can't find the serial number on this 100. It's not stamped in the square block on the right side of the transmission. Any suggestions? Gas smells like turpentine. Wires are all cracked. Choke is stuck. Going to be a little more work than my 122, but glad I had that to practice on.

darkminion_17 06-10-2016 09:50 PM

Yes I saw it but I had to pass on it.
The serial number is prolly stamped on the gear reduction housing not on the square block.

Jeff122 06-11-2016 01:19 PM

Thanks Lew. Would that be just in front of that square block? There appears to be some numbers there, but I haven't figured out how to see them through the paint. Tried sanding but they aren't very prominent.

olds45512 06-11-2016 01:33 PM

If you have a sandblaster you can hit the area where the numbers are and you will be able to read them real good.

Jeff122 06-12-2016 07:08 PM

Yes Tim. That is on my list of future purchases.
