Picture from the past

1 Attachment(s)
Looking through my new Red Power magazine there was an article with this picture attached. It's of my grandfather looking at the new Farmall Super C tractor.
I'm figuring it's from the early 50's. He bought all his tractors from the dealership here in Gillett. Back then it was known as Dickinson-Rasmussen Implement. Before my time, but I remember when it was Gillett Implement.
Long gone now, grandpa, dealership and tractor... All that's left is memories.:bigthink:

That is so cool....

Terry C 02-12-2016 09:34 PM

That's really cool Todd!

olds45512 02-12-2016 09:48 PM

That's cool.

SS5150 02-12-2016 10:28 PM

Cool picture, Red Power is one of my favorite magazines.

Yosemite Sam 02-12-2016 10:52 PM

That's the Coolest damn thing I've seen in a long time!

Alvy 02-12-2016 10:54 PM

That's awesome Todd. I see it as a sign. There's a certain third generation Zippel that should be show cased as well with his Original. :bigthink:

Rescue11 02-12-2016 11:03 PM

That is so cool! I love family nostalgia such as that!

MWShaw 02-13-2016 05:20 AM

How cool is that!

Good for you Todd, I'd love to stumble onto something like that.

john hall 02-13-2016 07:46 AM

Nice! I'm wondering if some of your Cadets may have came from there? Was it just by chance the picture is in the magazine or did someone in your family submit it? Either way that's cool!

I bet the number of older IH dealers with that style of IH approved building is almost non-existent now. The one my dad worked for turned into a distribution point for Merita bread products. The showroom/parts counter is used for retail space, the tractor and truck shops are for storing bread. I didn't think it was possible to get all that Hy-tran odor out of the building!

Sam Mac 02-13-2016 08:10 AM

Todd that is COOL! Wonder if you can find out who has the negative and get a good print? :bigthink:

DeltaCub 02-13-2016 08:20 AM

That picture is very cool! The only things my grandfather ever bought were used wrecks and moonshine!
There is a Case IH dealership in Burlington, WI that still uses a building of that IH design. It has been remodeled but many of the unique features are still noticeable.

Wow, congrats Todd on a great old pic. Mike:beerchug:

Sugarmaker 02-13-2016 10:40 AM

Todd,
Now we see that the IH RED runs pretty deep in the Zippel family! Yea if you don't have it, I would try to get a copy of the original picture and have it framed in your house or shop. That's awesome!
So did he buy the tractor? If so do you still have it?
Regards,
Chris

Shrewcub 02-13-2016 11:33 AM

Super COOL Todd!!:beerchug:

I talked to the editor's office and was told that after the article was written they were asked to find some pictures for said article. Pictures are from an old IH handout the dealers had, so no John, nothing submitted from our end...

Yeah Chris, I was riding on a super C and W-9 before I could walk... Granddad had two Super C's and one C, W-9, 856 that were all bought from this dealer as well as four pickup trucks and most of the implements...
Nothing left but the back half of the C sitting behind our house with trees grown around and through it... Would make a good lawn ornament.:beerchug:

Otter Sales & Service. I need to get up there, they are cheaper than my local CC dealer.

I hadn't seen this thread. This is awesome. I also notice the fuel pump and the Pegasus (Mobil?). Any corporate connection to the oil company?

ACecil 02-15-2016 12:55 PM

That's a very cool pic, Todd!

ccguy 02-15-2016 03:08 PM

Thanks for sharing with the rest of us...who never experienced that era. "Red Pylon" designed building with Mobilgas pump (Tokheim?) to the right of the entrance. Cool!

drglinski 02-15-2016 08:06 PM

Pretty neat.

I like those old dealerships. I would have liked to have seen one. I know some exist in some shape or form...but not with all the IH stuff. :beerchug:

Not sure I understand the question Bill... If you're asking me if we had any "corporate connection", then the answer would be no. The dealer sold gasoline back then.

Just surprised to see another corporate logo on a IH building. Maybe I'm just caught up with too much corporate/sponsorship rights in today's world. Just wondering how it was back in the day.

Mountain Heritage 02-16-2016 09:04 PM

Yep, I agree, that is a really cool pic!
