Cub Cadet 123 02-09-2016 08:41 PM

And anticipation builds just to see the rest of the tractor, especially after looking at the quality of job you did with your engine.....wow!!!

Definitely going to stay tuned in to this one.

Welcome back, mate! Congratulations on your new addition to the family....No matter how many times it is said, "Dad" sure sounds great!

Some shots....the dual condensers im hoping is going to help with points longevity in running a hotter ign....it also has new style piston and rod with rod and cap offset bored for a continental (engine) bearing and a little pop out...head went .020" down with a fly cutter, valves ground, seats dressed, bronze inserts put in guides..i opened up the intake runner to the 30mm also....the original exhaust was there but just not salvagable in my mind so ill have to show you what i came up with for 31 dollars and see if anyone can tell..(well after paint anyways)....i also had a gentleman at redoyourhorse.com make up the original engine tags with MY #s on them...super high quality, like theyre printed on aluminum...nice guy too...anyways

Nevermind the basement pics...just not enough room to hang anything else in the shop....old lady says it looks like a tractor serial killer lives here...loves it when she hits her headon something doing laundry too...as long she didnt mess up the paint:biggrin2:

The exhaust took some tig time, but its an almost EXACT match size wise...started as a muffler for a deere with 1.5" pipe in the bottom and same coming out the top...other than stamping, (on bottom inside) no one will know....i hope....good old fleet farm

zippy1 02-13-2016 12:29 AM

Looks good, must of got a deal on acorn nuts...:biggrin2:
Oh yeah, good ole Fleet Farm, helps out the wifes profit sharing, that's good:beerchug:

mjsoldcub 02-13-2016 12:41 AM

I got lucky won a HUGE hardware storage cabinet FULL of stainless hardware at an industrial auction some years ago...probably 600lbs worth!! 304,316,18-8,347, and just about every type of fastener in every size up to 5/8".....

Rmowl 02-13-2016 03:20 PM

Holy mackerel that thing is gorgeous, custom plate is cool too. Never heard of the dual condensers, awesome work

Heres some more pics....got the remote zerk in , stainless driveshaft, and hydraulic lift...got some 45* fittings for the spool valve, and not sure if the custon front axle pivot pin is visible...anyways, the devil is in the details...cant wait to get it done and on to the diesel!!!

I cant tell thats not the original exhaust:biggrin2: getting there....guess i snuck a pic of my standard trunnion repair in the previous post also....took some figuring to make the spool valve work,(yes i know its not correct for a 1x9 but for what i paid compared to what people wanted, i figured i would make it work. i had to make the handle itself,(7/16" stainless bar) and the actual linkage...so hope all fits...bent it up in my newly restored 90yr old columbian vise..something else i have too many of.....anyone interested in trading an old vise, (chas parker, morgan, columbian, henry, yost, prentiss, etc) no matter the condition, for a pretty decent babco 160???? I also have a really nice wilton woodworkers vise i (should) get rid of...

Alvy 02-28-2016 11:56 AM

Wow quality work that's real nice MJ. Lots of time in that but well worth the end result. Hey where did you source the frame tag? I remember older posts about it and I think you or someone else found them but had to stamp your self I'm assuming? Thanks for the progress report, well done

dvogtvpe 02-28-2016 12:11 PM

We started playing with 2 condensers back around 1978. if you run a 3 ohm coil you'll find that the smaller diameter condensers don't have enough capacity and over time you burn the points. the second condenser eliminates that.

dvogtvpe 02-28-2016 12:20 PM

nice work. looking forward to seeing it this summer

Mike in SD 02-28-2016 09:02 PM

Very nice build! I love the attention to detail, and that you have parts in the basement!

Do you have any more details on your muffler build? What part number did you start with?
Thanks,
Mike

mjsoldcub 02-29-2016 11:30 AM

thank you very much fellas, and couldnt have done it without you Don.... anyways, i did find a serial tag, but that was for my 1250, which went from a '75 to a '79, but that was just a junkyard find from another forum member... i do however know a very nice gentleman at REDOYOURHORSE.COM who will reprint all your kohler decals with your original #s on them..very high quality too... no this one is all 169, i like to take the tags and clear them then put them back on with brass rivets...im not sure whats wrong with me...

the exhaust was just a stanley muffler from fleetfarm with the closest possible dimensions to the original (its VERY close) and for 32$ and some time who cant beat that...i think it was for a john deere 310 or 300 or something, it had 1.5" going in and out, as it was meant for a vertical stack on a big tractor..just some tig action and grinding..ill try to get some close shots ..all i have left is to sand and paint rear rims, top coat (for the final time)the hood, and then wet sand and buff dash cover/cowl, and i just stripped the fender pan, so a little bit of work there....debating on doing the .25" stainless diff cover like my 1250 for this one too??? i did make all rear lift components as well, so hopefully i can pull my plow with it..look forward to portage and hoping to have the 72d done by then...looking for a real old little manure spreader that i can fix up, put some seats in and pull all the damn kids i got around in it!!!

I havent really been able to do much on her but did get all the hydr lift done and the dash/cowl on, cables in etc...does anybody know what the 5/16" studs coming out of the dash tower are ?? When i thickened my dash i noticed it sucked in a little on me...was thinking of using them to maybe push the glass out a little...??

darkminion_17 03-10-2016 05:47 PM

Those are for the hood latches.

Looooooking good!!!!

cubcadet 03-10-2016 07:25 PM

thanks alot fellas, i do appreciate it.. this is my outlet nowadays, although i do wish i could get my truck finished...wait until you see the trailer im building at my dads place, i could fit probably 8-10 cubs on there!! its not from scratch, i mean it was a 12k lb gvwr boat trailer to start.....but might as well be, some long days put in on it...anyways, hood latches you say..?? hmmmm never seeen those, you know in fact, other than a narrow frame i always thought the latches were p.o mods...guess ive seen more without than with..i welded the holes shut on my 1250...you wouldnt have a pic would you Lew??? do they save from any shakes and rattles?? i have these 1" solid stainless bar with 5/16" threads running through them, thought it would work good to push the dash out some, but maybe im asking for trouble...the hood support does too, but the original is such a flimsy little thing, and it puts all the pressure on the thin part of the dash anyways...dont really feel like going through what i did on my 1250 to make that stainless hood support...although i did do the rear cover, with 1" brass plug...should look nice all polished up with all the rear lift stuff, the .25" is alot less prone to leaking too, im tellin you...any kubota experts know where i can find a crank pulley with any sort of provisions in it??? or if all of the 3 cyl and the z482, (2cyl) have the same crank , spline dia, count?? i did notice that some new bx models have the engine in them back wards still...hope for a new one i guess,? i dont want to try to drill into the blank one i have, or ill have to make one:bash2:

thanks guys

They hook on top of the rear hood cross brace an then latch on the tower. The studs go through the loop de loos.

darkminion_17 03-11-2016 11:38 AM

Those are them, left and right side.the quietlines did not use these, there is a latch on the dash tower hood rest for that model.

mjsoldcub 03-11-2016 05:03 PM

Alvy, Lew, thank you...you guys know eeverything about these machines!!! Ive never even seen those things...try to find em or do my own thing??? I dont do holes though.....anyways, all you guys, thanks hou all kick a#$.....i do need some clam shell fenders for my 72d.??? Im thinking 14-16" custom rims but thats a whole nother threat. Have to get this sucker done first.

Finally got some done on the 169, in fact paint on rear wheels and and fender assembly is all thats left....well and work on some sleeve hitch stuff, but anyways....since every wide frame i get is missing the steering wheel decal tin i made a template and cut and bend one out of .125"aluminum, put the decal on and clear clear clear...pics of the .25" rear diff cover and drawbar, (i always weld a gusset in there and a drill bushing) that way it doesnt scratch when you hook up a trailer, or ever wollar out again....im not sure whats wrong with me....anyways almost there...gonna try and get the tank and side covers on....i almost wasnt gonna hook up the hour meter as im not smart enough to understand it anyhow, but went ahead and did...hope the hard fuel line wont leak....anyways , heres some pics.....happy easter to those of the religious sort

I always do the lifter box cover with the barb and hose, but gof tired of ig dripoing on my axle in my other cubs so this one i actually ran a fitting through the frame not sure if you can see it in the pics, (brass) but i like it better....also my trusted hood stop, just some stainless cable, and the remote zerk for the steering box....a must in my book

Oak 04-02-2016 03:38 AM

WOW! That is a very nice looking machine. Great job.:beerchug:

Rmowl 04-02-2016 05:15 AM
