Throwing snow today with my 108. was working great and dependable like it has for years. then the auger stopped in pile of snow.
I backed up disengaged auger. still did not work had to get the machine off the street near end of drive ways and back to garage to work on it there i saw the lever that makes contact with clutch plate is now just a lever with a bolthole in it !!! looked at road and just snow no parts:bash2: the hardware is gone and snow throwing is toast until new parts identified and bought please help! Thanks |
PTO clutch?
Or the go go one. |
Todd-Sounds like you're talking about your PTO clutch. Sounds like your fiber button is gone. Buy 2 bronze ones from Jeff in PA. You'll have an extra then. Post a pic so we know for sure.

Its the clutch on front of 108 engine. the manual level on left hand side of tractor operates a metal rod on right side. the rod runs past the starter, to the front plate on clutch. The lever that touches the faceplate of clutch has just a bolthole now. Things are missing (hardware). How do i contact jeff in pen?
Thanks big!! |
Time for a pic of what you have remaining of the PTO clutch. My guess is the arm got into the rotating parts and munched up your PTO. If that's that case you just joined the PTO clutch rebuild club. The experts will lend professional opinions once the pics are posted.

Yep, it's messed up. Go to the tech library and down load the how to rebuild your PTO

WOW:bigeyes: I've never seen one that bad.
|
That one needs a little work.

You are missing the wear button, thrust button, and springs. Sponsors of the site should be able to help you out. When ordering springs, get the wide frame springs or the type B PTO. Parts should look like the bottom one in my picture.
On the bright side, the lever/fingers don't look to bad. The damage could have been much worse. Both of my tractors had that happen from the previous owners. The aftermath is not pretty but I was at least able to get one salvageable clutch out of all the parts. If the lever/fingers are damaged, its easier to replace them when you are assembling it then to wait for them to bend again and mess up even more parts. https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5751/...6b7ffcc5_z.jpg |

How to rebuild it is covered in the service manual.

Options
It can be rebuilt: scare up a parts kit and you'll need the center button along with the wear button. Take the pulley & pressure plate to a machinist and have 'em turned then put in the new parts and go.
-- or -- There are a couple vendors that sell complete clutches rebuilt. Not cheap but it'll get your machine running quickly. One vendor will knock off $25 if you send them your old one. -- or -- If you have the local resource(s) find one from a parted-out tractor. Rebuild the other at leisure so you'll have a spare. Regardless, get out there and get some penetrating oil in the set screw holes so you can get it off. I find that removing the front screen makes clutch work easier. Note that there are three holes and each hole has a stop screw AND a set screw. |
Will type A clutch work on my 108? i see some one springs available
|
You have a type B Pto. A type A will work but type B is better for snow blowing

After being sick the last few months is finally got to removing old clutch of 108. Bought a worn but working one, plus a new bearing, clutch fiber disk thrust bearing. press in brass bushing for arm too.
The press on brass one looks excellent. However the brass thrust bearing is a huge disappointment. A piece of junk with threads that will never fit in springs and a threaded lock washer not even remotely original design. i am going to let this seller know in ratings big time it can't be used on 108 like he sold it to me as. Not going to mow yet with that darn thing. |
