My oldest son
1 Attachment(s)
Guys, I know I've been in basically "super lurk mode" for quite a while due to work and such, but I usually check in on the posts daily. I got a prayer request for you all to remember...
I'd like for you all to remember my oldest son (Owen). He was diagnosed on Dec 23 with a germ cell tumor on his pituitary gland (brain cancer). We have been going to Wake Forest Baptist hospital and he starts chemo this Friday (1/15). The doctors have said that he has a really good chance of a complete recovery but he will have to take 6 rounds of chemo and 5 weeks of radiation afterwards... We will be making a 2 hour trip down I-77 quite a bit (already have been) in the upcoming months... I have had a great peace about the whole situation. I'm not worried about his healing but I do really hate that he's having to go through all of this. He's only 10 years old. Last week he had surgeries to put in a portacath, do a testicular biopsy and a spinal tap. He's been taking all of this like a real champ. I don't know if he's even really shed a tear! That's a plateful for a 10yr old.

Your family will be in my prayers. That is a good hospital. When my son was born there was no where locally for him, all the critical care units were full. So with Duke literally in our backyard, we were shipped to Winston-Salem. Wonderful staff. You may want to check into Ronald McDonald house there, we were offered the chance to stay there but had family near by to stay with instead.

Will keep him and your family in my thoughts and prayers!

Always remember... God will not put more on you than you and him together can manage! |
Gary, Owen and your family will be in our prayers too.

Nobody should have that burden, much less a child.
God bless and hoping for a complete recovery. |

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers, we just got in from Winston a little bit ago... All things considering his first round of chemo went great. He only got sick once! The Dr's are afraid that the tumor has already caused his thyroid to quit functioning (the tumor is on his pituitary gland) so he will have to start on meds for that too. They won't know if his thyroid will recover or not until the tumor is gone, but that's not a major thing.

Our thoughts are with your son. Wishing him the very best, and a quick recovery!

My sister was 1 year older than Owen and she had a very rare disease with the doctor's only giving her about 20% chance of living. I was a little tike, but the memories are etched in my mind as though they were yesterday. She was hospitalized and getting ready to undergo a major operation in hopes of saving her life. The day before the operation, she sat up in bed and was miraculously healed to the doctor's amazement. They told us that they could not explain it, but we already knew why. May God be with Owen throughout his situation and with you and your family in your travels and may His hand guide the doctor's as the Master guides the student.
My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Stay tough there Owen!!! We are pulling for you. Cub Cadet 123 |
